Biden and Sanders with sizable leads over Trump in Michigan

A new poll shows both Democratic White House hopefuls Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders with substantial leads in matchups with President Trump in Michigan, one of the Rust Belt states key to his 2016 electoral college victory.

Biden, the former vice president, and Sanders, a senator from Vermont, led Trump by identical margins — 53 percent to 41 percent — among likely voters in the poll conducted for the Detroit News and the Detroit television station WDIV-TV.

South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg also led Trump in a hypothetical matchup by a smaller margin of 6 percentage points.

Sens. Kamala D. Harris (Calif.) and Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) had leads that were within the poll’s margin of error.

1. Here's the Detroit News poll:

"Among strong GOP voters, 69% said they would “definitely” vote to re-elect Trump, and 14% said they would probably do so. But among independents, 34% said they would definitely elect someone new, and 16% said they would likely do so."

How can 69% not see that they are being scammed?

I guess if R's are about 50% of those polled, then 50% of 69% is about 35% overall, which is about what his base is. It's just scary.

I read somewhere that Biden's support amongst Democrats is higher amongst those 45 years old and above, whereas Bernie is stronger with those under 45. Has anyone else seen this statistic? I will google it to see if I can dig up the source. Anyway, my conclusion is that we need someone who can unite both demographics, both younger and older voters.

I certainly have not ruled Mayor Pete out. I like Elizabeth Warren at this point, but I am keeping my options open. I saw Amy Klobuchar interviewed on TV a while back and was impressed. Smart and funny, really seemed on the ball. I don't know much more about her at this point. I am still studying the candidates and comparing. There are a lot of good people running. I am looking forward to seeing Primary Debates.
