I mean, its not as though 2016 and 2018 were blowouts in the state, either. Clinton lost by nine points, though that was closer than the margin in Iowa, which in 2012 voted for Barack Obama. It was the closest the state had been since 1976, excluding 1992 and 1996 when Texan Ross Perot played spoiler. Last year, ORourke lost by less than three points.
Then theres this new poll of Texans by Quinnipiac University. It has Trump struggling against a number of the Democrats running for the partys 2020 nomination. Hes up only four points on Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) and thats the race in which hes doing the best. Despite his relative success last year, ORourke loses to Trump by three points. Against Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Trumps only up one.
Against former vice president Joe Biden? Trump is losing by four points.
We need to win in 2020. The country cannot stand four more years of trump.

We have an illegitimate asshole squatting in the WH doing his level best to tear the country apart while spitting on our allies and embracing every strongman in the world. We'll be lucky if we don't end up in some catastrophic war.
Winning in 2020 is everything; it's the only thing.
Losing simply isn't an option. Not if we want a recognizable country to live in.

(10,828 posts)O'Rourke is getting much more polished, succinct and focused on the campaign trail. He might be one to watch for a breakout moment during the debates.
Might be what he's counting on.
I've always said if O'Rourke could recapture that lightening in a bottle moment, he'd take-off in the polls. Hasn't happened yet but there's still time.

Before he entered the race I was concerned about the attacks to come from left and right. No longer. And that announcement video of his hit it out of the ballpark, afaiac.
