Guess who else voted against federal funding for abortion?

AN EXAMPLE: ELIZABETH WARREN SAYS SHE DOESN’T LIKE THE HYDE AMENDMENT … Warren told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Wednesday night that “we do not pass laws that take away the freedom from the women who are most vulnerable.” Her team tweeted: “I will not support any effort to take rights away from women who are the most vulnerable. It’s time for Hyde to go. #WarrenTownHall”

… BUT, OF COURSE, SHE’S VOTED FOR IT! It doesn’t take long to find an example of Warren voting for the Hyde Amendment. Take this bill, which funded a big chunk of the government last year.

IT INCLUDED this language: “(a) None of the funds appropriated in this Act, and none of the funds in any trust fund to which funds are appropriated in this Act, shall be expended for any abortion. (b) None of the funds appropriated in this Act, and none of the funds in any trust fund to which funds are appropriated in this Act, shall be expended for health benefits coverage that includes coverage of abortion.”

WARREN voted for this bill twice. So did Michael Bennet, Cory Booker, Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Amy Klobuchar, Beto O’Rourke, Eric Swalwell and others. Bernie Sanders voted no. President DONALD TRUMP signed it into law.

Sun Jun 9, 2019, 06:20 PM

that Elizabeth was the mythical "Sanders" before he was! Her exciting progressive victories and inspiring calls to action created a large wave of enthusiastic demand across the left, including the Democratic Party's giant liberal coalition, for big progressive solutions and advances.

When she rather tragically decided she wouldn't run, she left a Warren-shaped vacuum that only then Sanders came out of obscurity to try to fill and reshape to his class-warfare ideology. What happened after that is already history and no point dwelling there...

What's happening now, though, is that Warren is running for president and reviving that same hope and excitement she did before! People still want those big progressive solutions by someone who can make them happen. And they're more needed far more now than then even. We have a whole lot of repair and catching up to do.

I have a plan for that! ~ E. Warren of course.

Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad in large bills. But if it came to voting on that specific policy alone, it sounds like she would vote against it. Biden can be asked the same question and we can see where he stands on it.

People like Warren, Booker, Harris see all that will be affected by a vote and then decide to vote. Trading off Meidcaid to make a questionable political point is not something they do. So they comitt to voting yes. Bernie sees there are enough "yes" votes and vote no because he knows Medicaid will not end up being denied to poor people. Bernie's fans go apeshit over his "no" vote, calling that stand principled. They should instead pat people like Warren, Booker, Harris, Gilibrand on the back for insuring poor people get healthcare.

It's fair grounds for debate. However it is by no means the same thing to vote in favor of a bill that contains hundreds of provisions both good and bad as it is to plainly assert that one specifically supports a controversial provision contained inside that omnibus bill.

DU posters definitely seem of an age, for the most part, for remembering the Hyde Amendment. The class-based bias of this approach is well known but reproductive rights issues often get back benched in this political climate, especially when those affected are primarily poor women or women of color.

It was a spending bill that included many parts, including some parts that a senator may not like. It's done all the time and required if you want to fund anything in the government. No hypocrisy at all.

What this is about is how Warren is coming on strong and Sanders supporters and some Biden supporters are getting nervous.

Four years ago, I witnessed so many of the same 'true and righteous' Democrats alleging concern in the here and now throw Planned Parenthood under the bus immediately after it failed to endorse their sacred cow in the primaries.

As far as I can tell, today's hullabaloo is but an extension of that same bias, using actual concerns as vehicles for more pretense.
