Sanders will not be the nominee.. Warren is winning over that part of the

Democratic primary/caucus voter.. She is on fire.. Unless something breaks loose on her.. she is making that part of the party her own..Sanders made one mistake that is hurting him here.. when he went back to being an Independent.. it has the primary/caucus voter not sure about where he actually is..

Biden is making his move on the center voters...The biggest threat to Biden on the more centrist liberals..is Buttigieg.. I thought for sure O'Rourke was going to be his biggest threat.. but it looks like Mayor Pete is..

Love Kamala Harris to pieces but she has to make up her mind where she wants to operate out of .. the left of the party or the center of the party..its a tough one..she has got the stuff to go all the way..

Got a Facebook notice from Booker and contributed to his campaign to make sure he gets on the stage..Booker for Supreme Court..He is a Rhodes Scholar.. he would be such a great supreme court judge..

The truth is, these candidates have to get through the primary/caucus voter before they move center stage for the general election.. and a week is a lifetime in politics as they say.. it could all be different a month from now.. wonder what the view from Iowa will be like the day after the debates??

That is the view from Iowa as of today.. June 6, 2019

The Hyde Amendment means you must tell your doctor why you want an abortion. Many women are reluctant to do this. In all states, a doctor must report cases of child abuse, which will scare many incest victims off. In 14 states, the woman must report the incest or rape to the police, which most don't want to do. South Dakota openly violates the law and does not cover abortions for rape and incest.

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/17/us/politics/states-abortion-coverage-medicaid.html

Also, in researching for this post, I found that some informational sites either did not mention the rape/incest exemption or it was not clearly stated, which means victims may falsely believe Medicaid won't cover it and so may never even go to the clinic.

Warren is smarter than I thought, and I already thought she was pretty smart.

though. Not as they reported it. She was asked and said she disagreed with Biden, but it was the Hyde amendment she attacked as she explained what was wrong about it and its effects. Very Warren. I love policy wonks.

Rachel said last night Biden's position on Hyde wouldn't last through the primary. Tonight she said she didn't realize it wouldn't last 24 hours. (!) So now he has an updated awareness. I think he was remiss, though, for not examining his 40-year-old vote on this yesterday when asked about it.
But he didn't, and I'm criticizing him specifically even if she didn't.

Thu Jun 6, 2019, 05:29 PM
Jun 2019

I am not that far from you in Western Illinois. We have gone to Iowa to canvas in the past. I don't know if we will be doing that this year. I feel busy enough in this part of Illinois.

I went to a meeting yesterday that was a bit discouraging. It was for an Indivisible chapter, mostly long time activists. Many of them reported that friends and acquaintances know very little about the prospective candidates. Even some of the top tier candidates are unknown to them. These are people who are less political than us. We who work hard on GOTV IRL and post on DU should not be shocked by this. I know it is early, but we have work to do.

I am going to our JFK dinner this evening. It encompasses five counties in this part of Northern Illinois. Of course any Democrat is welcome. We have a former chair who comes every year who is from Freeport. He is outside our five county area, but represented by some of the same people. I am always happy to see him. I was pleased to meet several new people from his community at the ILDCCA brunch in Springfield last year. They were young men, just the people we need working at the local level. They were county board members.

I don't know who will show up for this. Usually, we have our state treasurer. He is faithful. We may get the governor, and almost certainly Cheri Bustos. Next year, the politicians and elected officials will be tripping over each other to meet the county level activists.

Keep up the good work over there.

...I think "Sanders made one mistake that is hurting him here.. when he went back to being an Independent" is an overblown issue. Outside of DU, I can't say I've met anyone who cares about this. At all. If he's on the Dem ballot, that means the actual Dem party accepts him as a Dem candidate, period. If it's good enough for the party, it should be good enough for the voters. If someone votes for him, or not, that won't be the reason. All this bickering here about whether he's a Dem reminds me of when sports fans argue about teams they're really invested in, or SF folks argue about Star Wars vs. Star Trek, etc. Ultimately meaningless to the greater population.

Thu Jun 6, 2019, 05:50 PM

in retrospect anyway. It was she who, through her achievements and speeches, revealed the hidden strong desire among Democrats for strong liberal, progressive actions and solutions.

For years polling had completely failed to reveal that. (To the point now that I can't help wondering if some pollsters may have been involved in a plot to keep it unknown. There are plotters everywhere else after all.) If I hadn't known better, from the polling and analyses of those years I'd almost have thought I was the only one, instead of one of many millions.

But in any case, she ignited an eager Elizabeth Warren movement who practically begged her to run. When she didn't and left an Elizabeth Warren-size vacuum of demand, Bernie Sanders came out of obscurity to fill it. (And the rest of that is history.)

But now Warren IS running for president.

"I have a plan for that!"

Because one of the things I learned in statistics is that if you ask the wrong question, you'll get the wrong answer.

I can't see either of them doing that.

You are on target on Senator Warren. She took the early hit's but kept swinging. I like that she will go anywhere to talk to voters, even into red areas, we need our candidate to do that in 2020, those areas also contain a LOT of blue voters who could be key to changing a state electoral result if they feel engaged by the democratic candidate.

I believe that Senator Warren is eroding the Senator Sanders primary vote and will likely seal the deal once the debates start.
