Biden isn't "delusional." It's called campaigning. It's called politics.

Everyone needs to look at what he does and all of the candidates through the lens of running a political campaign, not our own personal thoughts on whether or not Republicans will change once trump is gone.

In this case, Biden loses nothing for expressing what is essentially a positive aspiration for the country (in the GOP working with a future Democratic president), but gains support from voters who want that.

It doesn't matter that it's unlikely that the GOP will change, that's NOT the point.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

There are dozens of issues, but those are important ones no?

YOU don't think those % are accurate? Well, hard to argue with someone that simply refuses to believe multiple polls in front of their face.

I don't quite follow your math in the last statement you made. 20% of Democrats own guns so that means I am saying 20% of Democrats are right wing extremists? That's quite an assumption saying that every gun owner, even a Democratic voting gun owner, is automatically AGAINST sane gun control laws. I'd think that that 20% against those laws would be for the most part made up of Republicans. I'm sure there are a few Dems in there, there always is. But its quite a stretch to assume every gun owner, even Dems, are against sane gun control laws.

Hey you're the one that called the majority of Americans "extremist", if you can believe the polls. And it seems rather convenient to simply cry "fake news" about those polls.

The "base" are the ones who ALWAYS VOTE and who are LOYAL to the Democratic party, and Democratic candidates. They also register as Democrats, they volunteer, they hit the pavement, the canvas, they call, and they donate.

There is a common misconception that "base" is another way of describing the most-pure and most-left liberals. That's simply not true.

Sadly, the voters who are furthest left often sit-out elections for various reasons... and when people don't vote for the Democrat... when people don't support the Democratic party, well... that just makes it easier for the GOP to steal elections.

He knows very well how to frame his campaign themes, and he knows that most people would prefer politics to be less acrimonious and more cooperative. The actual fact that the GOP are for the most part hostile and uncooperative isn't important; what's important is the aspiration for collegial politics. He sat through eight years of the GOP throwing sand in Obama's gears every chance they got; he knows very well that they're a bunch of dicks, and he doesn't intend to be rolled by them. He is expressing the wish that dealing with them like grownups would be possible.

Tue Jun 11, 2019, 12:23 PM
Jun 2019

Former vice president and current 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden was hit with criticism Thursday over a 2015 video showing him offering nuanced praise for Dick Cheney.
...
"First of all, I really like Dick Cheney for real. I get on with him, I think he's a decent man..." Biden said, in a discussion regarding advice between vice presidents.
...
But Biden's comments regarding the deeply unpopular Cheney irked many progressive and liberal factions of the Democratic Party who have long criticized Biden as an "old guard" corporate moderate.

"This is a problem. A decent man doesn't mislead a country into a misguided war that kills thousands of American GIs and leads to the deaths of hundreds of thousands civilians," wrote Mother Jones' David Corn Thursday.

He was in the Senate for 36 years, he is experienced in how it used to run and has personal friendships there. I'd expect someone like that to think that the Senate still can run the old way and that's exactly how he sounds. You and I happen to think he is wrong, but I don't assume he secretly agrees with us when he says the opposite.

to get things done. It's called compromise. Each party gives up a little until they reach a point that each side finds acceptable even though neither side got exactly what they wanted.

The highly polarized politics today result in either getting nothing done or one party steamrolls over the other party. It's no way to govern the country.

24. He claims to KNOW that the GOP will suddenly be cooperative with Democrats once Trump is gone.
Tue Jun 11, 2019, 12:41 PM
Jun 2019

He backs up that claim by saying he had private conversations with 12 Repub colleagues after McConnell blocked Merrick Garland's nomination and they had "concerns." He is implying a knowledge of and a chumminess with the GOP that the other candidates don't have.

That's a hell of a lot more than voicing an aspiration for the country! I personally think he DOES believe it, that it's only his own wonderful self that will generate this sea change in Republicans. He's a salesman at heart, and this is the thing he's hard-selling to voters.

Obama believed it for at least 6 years. HRC warned Obama and KNEW they wouldn't openly work with her. She knew that she'd have to force them to. Remember "triangulation"? That was Clinton cornering the GOP in their own rhetoric. It wasn't really compromise as much as trapping them.

One can hope, but one must also be realistic.

At this point, the GOP shows no sign that they actually believe in a 2 Party system.

A party that is doing a fine job destroying itself to the benefit of all of us. They are all as guilty as trump, they all need to be replaced. They don’t get to flip when trump leaves.

28. Reaching out to republicans is one thing
Tue Jun 11, 2019, 01:12 PM
Jun 2019

Believing and operating under the assumption that they will see the light is another.
Democrats worked with Bush after republicans impeached Clinton. Clinton had even found some common ground with that spiteful bunch of republicans. Before that, Tip O'Neill and Reagan trumpeted their abilities to work together.
What it came down to was throwing poor people under the bus. Getting tough on crime and dismantling the social safety net. Workfare under Reagan, "ending welfare as we know it" under Clinton.

Obama did his best to find some bipartisan cooperation by taking steps in the conservatives direction on further damaging social programs to no avail.

The take away for me is to wonder exactly what Joe means. Did we just not go far enough to the right when it came to damaging the lives of poor people, as working class people bought into the lie of their privilege with the belief that they are morally superior because they have a job?

Has been for Democratic policy makers to walk the talk and take steps towards conservatives rather than getting them to move even the tiniest bit to the left.
If past is prologue, I have good reason to be suspicious of his intentions and what kind of potential damage he won't mind inflicting to get things done.
