Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumThe corporate media conglomerates have already cut away from Bernie's speech
so they could "define" what he is stating in real time, cowards.

(4,341 posts)We want to fight the media? Stop giving them money, cut your cable subscription and let them know why you are doing it.
Its like this, we may write all day in DU, the Newspaper, Magazines, Periodicals, on the walls, wherever, but while we keep funneling money to them, everything else is mute. They will react when it hits them where they really care, the wallet. They knew giving the buffoon so much coverage during the last election was not good for the country and the World, did they care? of course not, it brought them ratings.
Sticks and stones may hurt their bones, but lack of money will kill them, or at least convert all these traitors into patriots.
I cut my cable service more than five years ago, and I could not be happier. I just get an antenna, watch whatever I like that doesn't involve "opinions", like "Andy Griffith Show, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Voice, now Songland, Golf when on TV, and that is the end of it. Yes, I miss watching Tennis, Soccer, but hey, it is worth it. I get offers every week, they want me back

The CNN hosts today have been very critical of Democrats.

(48,919 posts)Fox cutting away from many Trump speeches.
There's just a lot of news to cover. AND a lot of candidates.
Fortunately, there are usually ways to watch the entire speech online. And sometimes C-SPAN might carry it all (no idea if they did with Bernie's speech today).

(37,748 posts)How vindictive and cowardly they all are, indeed...
Or, they could be fishing for ratings (y'know... it's kinda what they do); as neither Sanders nor Trump seem to be doing so well these days on that particular tack.

(48,919 posts)beneficiary of corporate socialism -- and if he'd gone from that to trying to equate the New Deal with democratic socialism and then focused that segment on the Democratic Party having unfinished business bringing those goals to fruition, creating fairness -- then the speech would probably have had MUCH more impact, and it would have been more likely to get aired in its entirety.
Instead, Bernie sort of meandered through much of the speech, and even if it was a bit more comprehensive than many of his stump speeches, it still sounded too much like them.

(48,919 posts)democratic socialism to make it more appealing to most voters?
That's actually what I was expecting from the hype about the speech.
But if the speech was going to be "democratic socialism is good for the 99%, Trump personally benefits from corporate welfare for the 1%" then I still feel Bernie should have just started with a really harsh attack on Trump.

(7,277 posts)He could frame an argument in terms of class struggle and collectivism, sounding reasonable and avoiding red flag terminology while mendaciously reconciling his analysis with respectable analysis.
There was nothing intellectual in Bernie's speech, and little to camouflage the albatross, as you put it, around his neck.
I though at one point he would expand 'economic rights are human rights' into something more encompassing that a power point list of policies but not so. The stumbling block here is that human rights are individual rights. Urggh ... I am so tired of discussing socialism. I thought we were done with this stuff 30 years ago.
