OK. I'm getting excited about O'Rourke again.

I was initially excited about O'Rourke during the 2018 election like everyone else, but as the 2020 primaries got going Inslee was my guy because of his focus on climate change and my sense that he had the presence and articulateness to maybe fire some imaginations. But that hasn't happened. But tonight on The Newshour he led off with a substantive, passionate statement about climate change. So I thought that maybe here's the guy to bring charisma to the absolutely most important issue facing us.

I'm leaving my public support of Buttigieg in place for now because I want him to make a really strong showing in the primaries, but I don't think he has a chance for the actual nomination.

Waiting with high interest to hear more from O'Rourke. I'm sorry I didn't see the CNN Town Hall. What do you DUers who did see it think?

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Whenever I hear O'Rourke, I always think he starts out a little slow, but after a minute or two he seems to catch fire and really get into it. Once he's into it, he gets really passionate about the issues, and I think his passion resonates with the voters.

about the BS question that Colbert asked him, about if he and the rest of the 24 Democratic candidates were stuck on a deserted island, which one of you would be eaten first? Yes, as I said, it was BS, designed to be for the sake of humor, and not really answered. O'Rourke could have parried the question, as any normal candidate would have, but he meekly suggested that he'd die first, and Colbert jumped in with, "And then they'd eat YOU!" to which he seemed to agree.

That is not the attitude of the fighter we need to take on Trump. He's been self-effacing before, but this was a new low.

The best way to beat Trump and get on his nerves is to not provide oxygen to his ego. You starve him of attention, treat him like he is insignificant and unimportant. Constantly attacking him only gives him what he wants and thrives on. Someone who campaigns on issues and doesn't even mention his name is the best bet.

between trying to out-bully Trump (it can't be done) and meekly apologizing for everything, even stuff that isn't your fault, there's a happy medium out there. And it will take a bit more than that happy medium to beat Trump, in my opinion.

He has the perfect temperament, is battle tested, forces Trump to spend tens of millions in Texas trying to avoid losing it. Beto inspires and motivates and will bring in millions of NEW voters. Not all candidates can bring in new voters. It takes a strong star power, that "it" factor. Beto has that. It can't be learned. You either have it or you don't and Beto has it. That is something that Trump, the GOP and even Russian meddling can NEVER gauge or predict. It's the ONLY way to fight the inevitable meddling and attempts to steal another election. New voters with no history or data to use to manipulate. Beto is the only one I think can really bring in a massive amount of new voters that will flip places that Trump can never predict flipping.

And Trump has an enormous war chest, without touching a dime of his own money.

Sorry to say this, but Beto will probably be gone by the third debate, if they shrink the field down to five, maybe six candidates. The rising stars right now are Liz and Pete.

but he managed to win a US Senate election a time or two, as I recall.

So did Warren, Sanders, Booker, Klobuchar, Bennet, Gillibrand, and Harris. Inslee and Hickenlooper also managed to win statewide elections for the governorship of their states. Even Bullock, who didn't make the cut, managed to win in a pretty damned red state.

We need a winner this time around.

I'm in my 50's and have always been a registered Independent and mostly moderate. I've voted in almost all presidential elections. I used to vote for a few moderate Republicans here and there up until McCain picked Palin. I have only voted in one primary election, for Howard Dean, because I lived in a state with an open primary. Now I live in a state where the primary is closed, so I don't ever vote in it. I have voted only in one midterm election that I remember...and that was in 2018.

Now about this primary. I don't dislike any of the candidates really. Some I like what they say here or there or agree with them, but...there is only ONE that inspires me and motivates me. There is ONE that I trust. There is ONE that has got me feeling some kinda way. There is ONE I opened my wallet to for the FIRST time ever. There is ONE who will get my old a$$ up and out volunteering for them. That ONE is Beto. I like him SO MUCH that I am actually very seriously considering changing my party registration to Democrat JUST so I can vote for him.

If he can get this kind of reaction from someone who always pays attention and has almost ALWAYS been utterly disappointed in the nominee (except for Obama and both Clintons, Hillary more because the pickings were slim) then Democrats really NEED to pay attention to him because he CAN bring in enough NEW voters to wipe a hell of a lot of red right off the map!

I think that Joe Biden could certainly win back states in the blue wall that were lost to Trump the last time around. If he stays away from making gaffes, he's probably got the nomination wrapped up.

I also think that Pete Buttigieg is whip-smart, and while I would gladly vote for him for president, I think he poses some challenges in the country the way it is. We need more homophobic people to die off before we can elect a gay man as president. Plus, if he had another 15-20 years more under his belt, plus maybe the governorship of Indiana (or being a Senator from that state) he'd be the front runner right now.

I have to say, I'm still ticked off about Gillibrand's targeting of Al Franken, and I find the reasoning that those who jumped on her bandwagon to railroad Sen. Franken are really not that much better. Everybody else is pretty much a vanity candidate, just trying to get their name out there for the future.

With everyone saying repeatedly we have "an embarrassment of riches," I wonder who they're talking about.

I feel sort of "meh" about almost all of them. They're not bad, but they're not great, in different ways. None of them inspires me, gets me excited, makes me want to run to the polls and vote for him/her.

I don't care for Congress people running for the Presidency, in the first place. They typically have a hard time winning a GE because there's so much to attack them on. (We've seen a lot of that w/Biden.) But at least most haven't been in Congress long, so maybe not a lot to attack them on (except Sanders & Biden & Warren).

I'm impressed with only one: Buttigieg. But I don't think he can win the nomination. I've grown to appreciate Warren, too. I don't see her winning the GE, either. So, I'm left trying to decide which one will most enthuse people to go vote in the middle of a rainstorm or snowstorm.

I think it may not matter what I think, anyway, since it seems Biden....well, you know.
