<snip>
"Half of black Democratic primary voters say they plan to support former Vice President Joe Biden in the partys presidential nominating contest, according to an Economist/YouGov poll released Thursday.
The 50 percent figure represents an outsize share of support among a crucial and highly sought-after Democratic voter bloc. Bidens closest competition among black voters was Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who trailed in a distant second place with 10 percent, according to the survey.
In third place was Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who is of Indian and Jamaican descent, with 7 percent support, while Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and former Rep. Beto ORourke (D-Texas) are tied for fourth among black voters, at 4 percent each.
Biden, who served as vice president under the first black president in U.S. history, has consistently polled well with black voters, who make up a key voting bloc for Democrats. A previous Economist/YouGov poll released last week showed the former vice president with 45 percent among those voters."

This makes me realize they know from many past polls what you are already so how can they do it fairly?

(26 posts)All this talk about surging Warren, Pete, etc. doesn't matter as long as Biden has a stranglehold on the African American vote.

(58,785 posts)it to drop, perhaps very considerably, during the primaries if support rises for other candidates, and then, if Biden becomes the nominee, rise substantially again. By then Obama will be campaigning for our nominee also.

(58,785 posts)legacy, and the greatest white hope they have in electability, but they waited for Obama to win the Iowa caucus and show he was viable before moving strongly to him from Hillary. That has to be happening again as many wait to see what happens with Cory Booker and Kamala Harris.
Black support for Biden is most encouraging for me for showing common purpose with large blocs of other voters and its suggestion that large numbers would turn out for him in the general election if Biden is our nominee. I suspect it also means large numbers, particularly women, would turn out for any of our possible white nominees. Its not just about liberal principles and progressive economics, but tremendously about defeating the Republicans.

(25,183 posts)and that was when Oprah Winfrey declared that he was the real deal. Since one of her proteges is still nominally in the running, she can't come out for Booker, or Buttigieg, or anybody else. But if that happens, then watch out.

(89,237 posts)if Hillary had won Iowa she would have been the nominee in 2008 .
but Obama had also spend A LOT of time trying to win black voters starting early on in the primary season. so by the time he won iowa many were already familiar with him . If he had not worked hard to win over these voters even the Iowa win would not have been enough.
I think it will take the same to win the black voters from Biden. a candidate will have to work starting now to win black voters while at the same time they will have to either win or do well in iowa and/or New Hampshire. right now i think the ones who could possibly do this are Warren, Harris, and O'Rourke.
