Democrats want White House hopefuls to cool it on Biden attacks

"Democratic lawmakers warn that Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and other White House hopefuls taking shots at front-runner Joe Biden are playing with fire and could wind up helping President Trump win reelection.

While there are disagreements about the former vice president in the Senate Democratic Caucus, Democratic senators are rising to his defense after Booker demanded Biden apologize for recounting his collegial relationship with two segregationist former senators, James Eastland (D-Miss.) and Herman Talmadge (D-Ga.).

Lawmakers fear the 2020 Democratic presidential primary field is becoming a circular firing squad, with Trump winding up as the beneficiary of internecine fighting.

“I think everybody is picking on him, press as well as others. He’s the front-runner so he’s the one to shoot down, so to speak,” said Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who served with Biden for years in the Senate."

He is ahead by huge margins. They have to punch up. I don't like the recent attacks but I fully understand them. I get what Booker did. It's political.

5. The personal apology demand is kind of gross.

There's no way to know whether Joe made one or not last night as it's entirely up to the offended party to decide when and whether he's going to "accept" it. There's a word for that I can't use here. Anyway we've seen this before. I really wanted to like Booker but I have to question his judgment in playing that hand.

10. America has gotten more diverse since the 70s

what was just fine back then isn't necessarily right for 2019. There are reasons why the segregationists left our party. Are Dems expected to work together with the extremists of today? Trump works well with racists and bigots.

It would make much more sense to work with moderate Republicans to accomplish good things instead of working with segregationist Dixiecrats to oppose busing.

I like Biden. Lots of minorities do. But I think he used poor judgment when choosing which example to use in his speech and disappointed that he and his supporters don't know why it's wrong.
