John Delaney has been running for president the longest, but many Iowans still don't know him
John Delaney couldve been anyone when he chatted with Jourdan Harkless at the Des Moines Farmers Market on a recent Saturday.
They ran into each other in the Hangry Hippos tent on Fourth Street. Harkless, 28, said Delaney admired her Weimaraner mix, Copper, and made small talk. She said she had no idea Delaney is running for president. He didnt mention it, she told the Des Moines Register.
The Democrat, who has been in the race since 2017, wasnt seeking out handshakes, instead he stepped into vendors stands to investigate T-shirts or buy a bag of cookies. Just a few heads turned when he walked by, noticing either his face from his two years worth of television advertisements or one of his 29 campaign trips to the state.

Unlike Sanders, Delaney is still trying to break out of the bloated Democratic field. In the latest Des Moines Register/Mediacom/CNN Iowa Poll, 55% of the respondents who plan to caucus in person were unsure of their opinion of the former Maryland congressman.
