Biden would be 78 to start term if elected, is that right?

That's pretty old. Running a presidential election campaign is extremely exhausting, physically, psychologically, and emotionally.

What would happen if he should die after winning the primary but before the election?

Unpleasant topic, but we must consider his age and the vicious GOP and their mindset.

3. Biden is much younger physically than his chronological age

Should he win, He will have a good VP. A good cabinet. Good advisors.

Compare his mind and fitness level to Trump. Much younger, fitter, smarter, quick on his feet. Heís in better condition than many mid 50ís men I know.

is inherently easier than being the President? Don't be so sure of that. It requires a lot of detailed thinking without as much help as the President would have.

is what makes one's faculties duller. Ever notice a lot of these Washington people never retire? It must be very stimulating work. It's too much fun to give up. People can't wait to retire, because they are sick of their job and its stresses. Being in Congress, etc., obviously does not do that. Thus Pelosi, RBG, Feinstein, Bernie, Biden and others are still at it.

21. Don't get hung up on age. It affects people differently.

Senior Sensation Uses Dance To Stay Forever Young

<snip>

"Itís that million dollar question many ask, what can I do to stay feeling young and full of life?

There really is no right answer, but people do whatever they can to find it.

For 87-year-old Anita Wong, dancing is the answer."

https://miami.cbslocal.com/2019/05/06/fountain-of-youth-senior-sensation-dance-young-loose/

Anita was a friend of my mother (who died at 96 and was fully lucid until the end). She's 87 and dancing the hula.

29. Good question. What is the procedure for the party to replace a candidate if they die?

I wondered that last time with 3 older candidates- Trump, Clinton and Sanders were all pushing 70 or more. Would the VP candidate become top of ticket? Or would the party have a procedure to pick someone else? With both Biden and Sanders as serious contenders this time, it's a question the party ought to answer.

The same would apply whether a nominee died or was seriously incapacitated, such as with a major stroke. While this could happen at any age, the chances are much higher with a candidate in their 70s or 80s.

Also the reality is that most older people will develop some level of senility. We've suffered through that with Reagan and now, I believe, Trump on top of all Trump's other flaws. While both Biden and Sanders so far seem to have all of their marbles, how will they be a year or a year and a half from now? Let alone 4 years or 8 years later?

I prefer a younger candidate this time around because we should be grooming someone capable of not only winning election, but also winning reelection to a second term.

35. Party delegates vote on a new nominee.

"If a candidate died after receiving their party's presidential nomination, their party would hold an emergency committee meeting for delegates to vote for a new nominee...at that point it's whoever the party thinks has the best chance at still winning the election, whether it's the runner-up from the primaries or somebody who wasn't even previously running for president, and that person requires a majority vote from the national committee in order to receive the nomination."

.... actually believe that Joe Biden, his wife, his family, and especially his physicians did not take his health into consideration when making his decision to run for president? I am 100% convinced that if there were any foreseeable health problems for Joe Biden, he would not have decided to run. I cannot fathom Biden or his wife Jill putting his family and the country at risk unless they were absolutely confident he was 100% fit to serve. The ageism card has already been played and it did not go anywhere. What makes anyone think it will gain any traction now?

"What would happen if he should die after winning the primary but before the election?"

That may be asked validly of any current candidate.

It does beg the question though: at what arbitrary age limit should we begin the pretense of concern for a candidate, on what what objective measure is that based on?

If no specific age is provided as a reponse, we can safely presume the advertised concern is indeed, alleged at best.

41. Well, my parents are both 95 years old.

Neither would be up to being President. However, my father could have handled it at 78, no problem. And at 82.

Everyone ages differently. At 95, neither of them are doing well. It's remarkable they're both still alive, really. Looking at them as they are now, I do not expect either of them to hit 96. That will be sad, although my mother's mind is gone from Alzheimers, which didn't start until she was almost 90. My father's mind is working OK, but his body just keeps getting frailer and frailer.

But Joe Biden, at his current age, seems to be doing fine in both mind and body. He'll probably live into his 90s, too. He has that look about him.

Different people age differently. I'm 73. I wouldn't want to run for office, but I never wanted to run for office, so that's not surprising. Could I handle the job? Well mentally and physically, I could, but I don't have the experience and education for that job. Joe Biden does. If I didn't think he was capable of it, you wouldn't see his face at the bottom of this post.

So much for his age.
