Like it or not, Cory Booker's "attacks" on Biden are strategically sound.

Booker as of now has at least four candidates ahead of him. If he wants to have even a sliver of a chance of winning the primaries he needs to dramatically increase his profile. And what better way to do this than to get into some sort of exchange with the front-runner, especially in connection with a sensitive issue on which he can speak with some authority? Assuming that Booker was nowhere near Biden's short-list of VP picks, Booker has nothing to lose and everything to gain from this story staying alive.

On edit: I do not mean to imply that Booker is being insincere. All I am saying is that I think this helps him, regardless of what his personal motivations are, which I believe are genuine.

6. I think he's wanting to get out of single digit polling. This has gotten him some msm facetime

Hoping he will turn away from the negativity campaigning and instead tell us his policies and accomplishments. He has a lot to be proud of. His advisors should recalculate their strategy and have him speak to his own strengths when the cameras are on him.

21. That Booker doubled down on "boy" after Biden explained its context in his anecdote and, despite

a “conciliatory” call, goes on to demand Biden apologize to all Americans, tells me all I need to know. Hugs Biden, declares his respect of and gratitude to Biden, but continues to sow division.

Yes, he is serving his own interests.

33. He didn't have many turned on in the first place

I thought he would be more prominent in the primary. I thought he would be a frontrunner, actually.

He's just not firing on all cylinders. I don't watch Sunday news shows, but the online stories about his appearances today just talk about his criticism of Biden. How's that going to win a single vote?

And for people who are following the primary, we know that Biden didn't "praise" the segregationshits (typo, but leaving it for apropos-ness). It was a fumble to use them as an example of cooperation in the senate. But that wasn't praising them.

39. Yep

And because of Booker's criticism of Biden, that is all people will be asking him about for awhile, not policy or what Booker thinks he can bring to the White House.

People get tired of politicians who are scripted and talk in carefully prepared talking points, but I can see how that can happen. Election season turns into a nitpick fest, with pundits and opponents dissecting every sentence, phrase, and word a candidate says and finding meaning or intent that does not exist. Personally I would prefer candidates say what they mean in their own words and that is why Biden has always appealed to me. It is bad enough when republicans do it to Democrats, but it is ridiculous when Democrats do it to one another.

4. Booker can increase his profile by talking his strengths and accomplishments

Shitty negative “strategery” from a dumbass campaign ‘advisor’ is not the way to prove you are a statesman or are qualified to be President.

Btw Biden would probably have no problem picking Booker as a VP imho. Biden’s an adult and knows it’s just Booker trying to get out of single digits. It’s “just politics”

29. Interesting is that Booker said while on Lawrence O'Donnell

that he believes the ticket should not have two men and that's why he would not pick Biden as a running mate. So the other way round, would he take the VP slot if Biden picked him for a running mate? He should refuse because the ticket should not have two men per his own rule. OTOH that would not stop another male taking it, so maybe he could.

10. It's politically divisive and disingenuous.

Especially from a guy who, in 2012, called Obama nauseating for attacking Romney on Bain. I don't think it'll help him - in fact, I think it's alienating a lot of the voters he would need to be successful.

he's between 1-3% now
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2020/president/us/2020_democratic_presidential_nomination-6730.html
Feb-Apr this year, he was between 2-6%

He was averaging between 4% and 6% during that Feb-Mar time. He's averaging around 2.3-2.4% now. O'Rouke and Biden announcements coincide with Booker's significant drops in the polls.

12. I think it reflects poorly on him

that he has to rely on feigned outrage instead of persuading more people with his policies or personality. It may be a sound strategy and it's certainly a common strategy in politics but it's also opportunistic and dishonest when you knowingly misrepresent an opponent's point. It's definitely not your preferred way to make an impression in a political race and that he kept going to milk that issue shows at least signs of desperation.
He got the airtime he wanted but I think it's in his best interest to find other issues to make a positive impact because this isn't a long-term strategy.

Booker is doing what it takes to get some press and the name recognition that comes with it, PLUS he is doing it out of sincerity for what he believes in. Just like all the other candidates, he is in this to win, and he isn't worried about meaningless polls.

22. I would like to think of them as criticisms/disagreements, rather than attacks

The problem isn't that as I see it, but that the criticisms for the most part seem to be leveled mostly and Biden and Sanders, and most of the other candidates are not getting vetted at all.

The NY Times had a great survey a few days ago to all the Democratic candidates, with some tough questions. All of them participated except for Joe Biden, which I think is unhttps://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/us/politics/2020-candidate-interviews.htmlfortunate, and at a minimum is terrible optics for his campaign, and at worst gives the impression that he is afraid

That is my personal speculation

which puts him ahead of the 13 candidates who have 0%. Candidates punch up and would criticize the frontrunner more than others, unless they're a natural born asshole like Trump who hits everyone.

I can definitely understand why Booker would remind people that a Dem candidate has to think of all types of Americans, not just the ones we think we think we can win away from Trump.
