The trouble with candidates like Biden and Booker is....

... that they're centering their message around restoring civility. Of COURSE we want to restore civility, and any Dem candidate would restore it in the White House, and no Dem candidate is persuasive about restoring it in the GOP. The message doesn't distinguish them from the other candidates.

I'm sure Biden's "I can beat Trump" message will fade in impact as the others get more name recognition.

Do any of you disagree? If so, why? You think Biden and Booker have stronger messages? You think some of the Dems are less civil? Why?

And it is foolish of people to act as if they are plugged into whatever voters will be thinking come November 2020.

This time last year, the most popular candidate on DU was Michael Avenatti.

Things change.

What’s the plan, love harder? Pray for epiphanies?

Tbh, any candidate making a return to bipartisanship (which died a decade ago, minimum) central to their candidacy is way off limits for me.

Is a sound message. Because if we don't do that, all bets are off for the future of our Republic.

As for civility? That comes after saving the country from a wannabe dictator. I recall Biden in particular saying that 2020 will be a battle for 'the soul of our Nation,' that Trump and his enablers are an existential threat.

But then, I guess people hear what they want to hear.

We are addicted to insider politics here. The electorate is less engaged. They get weary of constant partisanship. The idea of being a bi-partisan peace make can be a winning strategy.

It might be impossible and complete bullshit but it is appealing to many voters who are tired of the current climate.

In the meantime I want to beat them like a drum, I want to laugh at Trump supporters and then pretend they don’t exist. I don’t care how they feel or why they voted like they did or what their circumstances were that led them to vote for a worthless piece of shit like Donald Trump.

Maybe they’ll get mad this time and move out of the country!

I hate them so much there is not a bone of reconciliation in my body.

Oh, and I want to work with Repubs as much as they worked with Obama!

OK, I feel better now.

...but that cannot be all.

I respect candidates with a bold approach: Ideas that move the country to " a more perfect Union"

I watched this video yesterday and post it only to spark the imagination not to criticize.

The acrimony is the exception not the norm. Or should be. I think it's a given that we can expect the Democratic candidate to be a decent person who will govern with civility. None have suggested otherwise.

The Dems and GOP were both quite civil with each other during bith Bushes and Reagan's administrations. Does that mean they will govern more like traditional republicans than Obama or Clinton or Trump?

If the GOP has been less civil with other Democrats, do Booker and Biden, do they think they will operate differently because..... Both are men? Biden is white? There is no way to stoke doubt Booker's citizenship? At some point they have gone an extra mile to the right to accommodate republicans? Or?????
It is kind of a confusing talking point when it has been the Democrats who have been civil all along.
