To learn than is Spanish. I’ve studied both. I think this is likely also to be an opinion shared pretty widely. Here’s one example:

both Norwegian and Spanish are category I languages. I've also studied both, and I found Norwegian much easier because the grammar is very similar to English and you barely have to decline nouns or conjugate verbs. It's much less complicated, and the vocabulary is also closer to English.

267. It's not actually "private" insurance
Thu Jun 27, 2019, 09:43 PM
Jun 2019

I had real private insurance = an individual policy-- before ACA-- $1100 a month and covered very little.

GROUP insurance from our employers is what many working people have (not by any means all-- low wage employees often do not get this benefit). (And many millions of us are on government insurance== Medicare, Medicaid, ACA.)

Group insurance is generally subsidized by the employers. We all want to keep it because we know we're probably paying only 25% to 50% of the real cost. If we had truly private insurance where we bore the entire cost and had to find and buy our own insurance, we wouldn't like it much, I think.

There's a good argument to be made that US companies are at a great disadvantage to European and Canadian companies because those have national insurance. And employees are too (though we do get it subsidized, which is nice), because when we leave our job, we lose our insurance. This is not a system without flaws and problems.

A real overhaul of the healthcare system might require an end to employer-subsidized insurance eventually. I'd like that to be gradual, but we can't really go on forever having so many of us on the brink of losing our insurance when we lose our jobs. A lifelong policy would be a lot better in the long-run.

Gradual is good. But employer-subsidized insurance is a mixed blessing, certainly for the country as a whole.

I like Bernie, and I supported him in the 2016 primaries (HRC in the GE, of course). I am glad he pushed the party to the left and got so many of my issues into the conversation.

I think he deserves credit for a lot of the party's and the country's movement to the left.

But now I think he would do more good by supporting Warren and encouraging his supporters to do so as well, and, if EW doesn't get nominated, he needs to enthusiastically support the nominee, whoever it is. (If not Warren, then I'd love to see Harris as the nominee.)

Yes, we have to ask what could possibly be the purpose of having so many people we didn’t’ even know were running on this program?????? To cut down on the competition for the chosen front runners? Why on earth????

I had one dentist look into my mouth and saw a boat payment a car payment and two alimony payments.. A second opinion from the dental school clinic said there was nothing wrong... All while saying insurance would cover it and in fact it would only cover 1/4 of it. I would have been on the hook for the balance. That was written in the small print at the end of his contract... No thank you... a bunch of thieves if you ask me...

their El Dorado, no need for any further search for Gold!!!!

Not all dentists are like that, but E-FREAKING-GADS!!!!!!!!!! I had a neighbor that just paid over $20K for dental work. At the time I was dating a dentist who was devoted to his craft -- charged $35.00 for an office visit in 2017 in LA County!!! And, he volunteered to do dental treatment for the homeless. My dentist pal looked at my neighbor's mouth and it was all he could do to hide his shock.

Total rip off...check out how many dentists live in really pricey areas in LA County like Brentwood. That is an eye opener!!!!

Again, I agree.. That's why I now go to the local dental school clinic. The 4th year students are almost ready to graduate and do all the "leg" work. The work gets reviewed by two dental instructors to evaluate the students work. After working in teaching hospitals for years I feel comfortable with this environment. They are not going to teach someone the way to do bad work. Prices are fair also.
It seems when they get out of school and are "in the field" for a few years they get corrupted with the lure of easy money. Maybe to pay off school loans? Status? who knows..

Thu Jun 27, 2019, 09:37 PM
Jun 2019

In the middle of the night, urgent care isn't usually open. And you can't really pick what time your kid gets sick. I've had to take my son to the ER instead of urgent care in the middle of the night and it ended up costing me $1800 with insurance. Urgent care would have been $50, but I didn't think I could wait to have my child seen. And another time my son's daycare called an ambulance and took him to ER. A couple thousand more.

Harris/Buttigieg.

My dream ticket from last night: Warren/Castro.

I’m still open though and want to watch things play out for a bit. We have a lot of great candidates. I can’t wait for the field to narrow.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

Super Smart, empathetic, knowledgeable, eloquent, adult, sane, not a racist or misogynist.
