Per Chris Matthews: Biden's team says Harris is doing "exactly what Trump wants."

Last edited Fri Jun 28, 2019, 01:20 AM - Edit history (2)

Sounds like an over-reaction to me.

The second tweet is by a senior advisor to Biden and it might be at the root of this story. The advisor gets a key thing wrong, however; Harris wasn't criticizing Biden for working with Eastland/Talmudge on the Voting Rights Act. It was for his work with them on the anti-busing bill.

Jamil Smith

@JamilSmith
The @JoeBiden team said that @KamalaHarris is “doing exactly what Trump wants,” per MSNBC. Fails on two levels. First, he doesn’t want a charismatic black candidate telling the truth about racism. Second, the idea Trump wants Biden out of the race, after tonight, seems laughable.

(Jamil Smith writes for Rolling Stone.)

Let’s get real. @JoeBiden fought for civil rights for his entire life. He started his career as a public defender. To attack him because he worked to convince Repubs (yes, some with horrible views) to vote for the Voting Rights Act is outrageous and is exactly what Trump wants.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

It means this is war, not whining...

Americans are dying because of Trump's Administration, he's treasonous, his appointees and staff are all crooks, and the fire needs to be focused and sharp.

Attack actions, not words. Children complain about insults; adults fight over realities.

She's falling behind and needed to take a shot. Big deal.

She can complain all she wants about Trump's words, and NO ONE will change their vote.

Both my wife and I thought Harris the clear winner of the debate tonight. She'd eat Trump alive in a debate because she's a tough-as-nails prosecutor.

And...what the hell is wrong with saying someone's words are hurtful? You think Trump's are not? You think the white supremacists, nazis and kluxers aren't hurtful? You think ripping kids from their mothers' arms and sticking them in concentration camps isn't hurtful?

No, Harris took Biden down a few notches. Didn't you see his head whip around when she said, "and I was that little girl?"

And the food fight comment - that won the debate and may well propel her to the nomination.

The "hurtful" thems just brings up "snowflake!" Especially if it is just words. Sticks and stones, that is a basis of American culture. Your other examples are not just words. And words coming from another liberal as "hurtful" would indicate to Rs they can use even more hurtful words (which they would want to do) and get somewhere. People who are "hurt" are weaker, right? That is what Rs are all about.

Biden made another error by saying the NRA 'is not an enemy' and trying to parse out and separate them (the NRA) from the gun manufactures. The NRA IS a fucking enemy at multiple levels, including being a Russian money laundering political slush fund for the Rethugs.

Biden is far from a sure thing, and far from the best to put up against Rump in a debate. One on one, Harris would tear circa 2019-20 Biden apart in 9 out 10 debates. She is a relentless and hyper-intelligent politician with great charisma and is also a superbly-skilled prosecutor starting to enter the peak of her intellectual and political powers. Biden is starting to manifest the effects of getting closer to 80 years of age (Biden would be in his 80's for over 75% of his two terms, from 2022 to 2029.) He is no longer remotely close to the peak of his powers, as was on display at both the Poor Peoples Campaign appearance well as the debate tonight.

that is strategically sound.

The Biden or bust meme is looking more threadbare with each week that passes. He still is the front runner, but he simply must massively up his game if he is going to be able to run a general election campaign. He is not looking strong at all atm.

His

positing is just plain daft

The NRA itself IS a clear and present danger, on multiple levels including being a Russian money laundering op, and tossing in hundreds of millions to help elect Rethugs, and to gut any reasonable gun control.

They are literally the definition of an enemy, at multiple inflection points.

The vast majority of the NRA members now are gun-humpers and RW'ers, most 'reasonable' ones left long ago.

Why More Than 90 Percent Of Gun Owners Don’t Join The NRA

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/mar/01/nra-russia-investigations-gun-lobby

The NRA used to be much more bipartisan. Now it's mostly just a wing of the GOP

Symone Sanders is a spokesperson for the Biden campaign. Is there anyway I can convince you to delete your “if True” post?

Because it isn’t true.

The exchange between Harris and Biden was actually quite respectful,, and the media seems to be enjoying putting their hyperbole on it.

In the next few days we will see what results, but I suspect it will not move the polls significantly one way or another

camp

Actual tweet from the campaign:

"Let’s get real. @JoeBiden fought for civil rights for his entire life. He started his career as a public defender. To attack him because he worked to convince Repubs (yes, some with horrible views) to vote for the Voting Rights Act is outrageous and is exactly what Trump wants."

Tweet from the Rolling Stone conveyed by Matthews:

"The @JoeBiden team said that @KamalaHarris is “doing exactly what Trump wants,” per MSNBC. Fails on two levels. First, he doesn’t want a charismatic black candidate telling the truth about racism. Second, the idea Trump wants Biden out of the race, after tonight, seems laughable."

Leaving out the full context of what the Biden campaign said is what is referred to as yellow journalism I am sorry to say

And Matthews pretending this was a statement from the campaign was a serious misrepresentation. He would have known that saying it was a tweet from a single advisor would have made it seem much less important.
