I'm for strong gun control and women's reproductive rights, but...

.... as the core of a presidential run it just doesn't work for me. Does it work for any of you?

specifically on gun control could cost us in the general election. Not that we shouldn’t be for it, but we shouldn’t make it a campaign centerpiece, IMO.

As far as women’s rights, I have no problem with it being front and center because of the all out assault by Republicans.

it for Obama; of course, could not get it through at the time, but it was a very effective part of the 1994 crime bill.

We need universal background checks, assault rifle ban, and clip limit laws at a minimum.

At the most basic level the federal government need to protect the citizens. The right to choose is just that, a right. It has been rolled back severely.

Guns owners are a systemic problem in our society. My biggest problem with the discussion is that "owners" isn't put after guns when the discussion occurs. Not often enough, at least. Gun owners are not only taking the lives of innocent Americans, they are wasting enormous amounts of taxpayer dollars, helping to maintain the multi-class system, and removing opportunity.

Both are at the core of what our party stands for.

Obama was great with Hope and Change. Getting mired in divisive issues is not a great plan. People want to be able to look to the future. A big program to clean up the planet while revitalizing rural and rust belt regions would be a great start.

I do think we can run on a woman's right to choose as well. If that is a voting issue...the person won't vote for us anyway but some might come over to our side to protect a right they took for granted.

I've always said that gun control is an overall vote losing issue. Nobody will vote FOR a candidate just because of a strong gun control stance, but a LOT of people will vote against them. Women's rights are more important though, and shouldn't be neglected.
