Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumMy patience with the America is not ready for a woman meme has grown very thin.
A rapist who was illegitimately installed in the White House is electable, and were struggling to find someone to defeat him. What in the actual hell is wrong with this country? Why do we keep buying the fucking republican talking points.

(22,093 posts)And this didn't just happen once. It happened multiple times.
And the abused/attacked women still keep coming out and claiming that he's attacked them too. What does it take, to get this piece of garbage out of the WH and in jail where he belongs...I guess money or being a bully works in hiding these types of crimes.
Perhaps in some states, a charge of rape against someone will still be valid (I don't know for sure but the charge of rape should be valid until the issue is resolved by either the rapist going to jail or found innocent, and not 'timed out' due to the statue of limitations...).
Despicable.

(1,898 posts)This entire meme is garbage. I'm sick of it, too. I support Sanders but, should someone else secure the nomination, that person would receive my vote. Gender wouldn't be a consideration at all, not one iota.

the Presidents and VPs had been women and only one of those
was white.

(1,898 posts)Top spot or running mate, never since the fight for universal suffrage has it been more important to have a woman either in the highest office in the land or just down the hall.

(5,106 posts)The few who can resort to the sorts of policies and votes in Congress that can be dredged up against any male running for election, if their detractors care to try. We're way overdue for a woman president, and even less "enlightened" countries have had women leaders before us. I voted for Bernie in the last primary (but won't this time), but I worked hard for Hillary in the local area. Whatever her faults I feel badly that she was not the first woman POTUS. She was far more highly qualified than any woman running now, plus, SHE EARNED IT!

(14,249 posts)Always wary of being told that America is not ready for a particular type of anything because that smacks of paternalism and women, minorities, gays, being told to sit down, be quiet, stay out of the way, dont rock the vote until we/they are told its safe to come out. In the meantime that means straight white men continuing to have the playing field pretty much to themselves - But dont worry, theyll know when its time and theyll alert us when the time is right.
Of course, they dont know when that will be, only that its not now. Never now.

(30,723 posts)And Tammy Duckworth does not have a district. She has an entire state, which she won decisively.
I believe she is right. We would lose the Midwest, or large portions of it, if AOC ever appeared on a national ticket, or any ticket here. I would like to see AOC win in a district like the one Cheri Bustos wins, in the Quad City area of Illinois, which Trump won. It would not happen. And yet Bustos wins her elections by 20%. She is in a leadership position in the Democratic party. She still finds time to go to her district offices, to train a new generation of leaders, to legislate in Washington.
Duckworth did not talk down AOC, she merely stated a truth about the Midwest, which she knows more about than AOC, who won her election with a very small number of voters. Duckworth said nothing about shit flying.
I have a hard time respecting anyone who dismisses Duckworth the way you have.
AOC is one of the people who wants to primary good Democrats who are doing the real work in Congress. I believe AOC needs to stay home more, to listen to her constituents more, to work with her caucus more and spread divisiveness less. She might be a leader if she stays in office and wins the respect of her caucus. I don't think she has the temperament for that, and I don't think she will be around for that long.
