Id smack him in the mouth: Biden seeks to dispel concerns about his ability to take on Trump after shaky debate performance
By John Wagner July 5 at 7:51 AM
Joe Biden compared President Trump to the kind of bully that he would smackin the mouth as a child during an interview broadcast Friday in which the former vice president sought to dispel concerns about his shaky first Democratic debate performance.
Appearing on CNN, Biden was pressed about his ability to stand up to Trump following a debate last week in which Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) aggressively questioned Bidens opposition to federally mandated busing in the 1970s, appearing to catch him off guard.
The idea that Id be intimidated by Donald Trump hes the bully that I knew my whole life, Biden said. Hes the bully that Ive always stood up to. Hes the bully that used to make fun when I was a kid that I stutter, and Id smack him in the mouth.
During the interview with CNNs Chris Cuomo, which took place Thursday in Iowa, Biden acknowledged that he wasnt prepared for Harriss attack.
I was prepared for them to come after me, but I wasnt prepared for the person coming at me the way she came at me, Biden said, adding that he felt he and Harris knew each other well and that she also knew his late son, Beau Biden.

One thing I really respect about Obama and Bill Clinton is that they didn't use the kind of disgusting rhetoric that immediately brings to my mind gun worshipping maga men on motorcycles and Trump at his most vile.
I'm so glad we have so many women candidates and men who trust voters to respond to campaigns of substance over maga style imagery in the primary!

To answer your question, yes I do. No one is above criticism and that's coming from a life long democratic voter. So I include myself it that criticism.

I'm not in favor of violence either, but I understand the need to seem strong and tough.
AND I very much appreciate it directed at Trump and policies we deplore, and NOT another Dem who the attacker really agrees with.
I will never vote for Harris in the primary!
I will vote Biden.
But, in the general, I will vote for any Dem, even someone who has completely disappointed me and lost my trust, like Harris. She may only be out for herself and not Americans as a whole, but she's still better than Rump.
Still, I trust Biden and know he's out for the whole country.

(11,210 posts)We have one blustery bragging tough-guy wannabe as president. We don't need another.
As for the cheers he gets when he says this, look at the cheers trump gets with his swagger.
Joe is smarter than trump. Let him show that by showing that he is ready to actually handle a debate stage. I have images of two septuagenarians standing belligerently on a stage each saying how they are going to beat up the other one.

Trump is a bully, and Joe has been standing up to bullies his entire life, Owens said in an interview. Joes stuttering, I think, is one of the principal reasons a major, major, major reason that he is the good and compassionate and kind man that he is.
About 3 million Americans suffer from the speech impediment of stuttering, marked by involuntary repetition of sounds, syllables or words. According to the National Institute on Deafness and other Communication Disorders, most children outgrow their stutter, but for 25% of them, stuttering is a lifelong challenge.
Biden has overcome the serious stutter of his youth, but remnants of it resurface on occasions such as when he is very tired, he said in a 2016 speech. Experts on stuttering who follow him closely say they have noticed it on several occasions during the campaign, such as an interview on The View when he addressed complaints about his tendency to touch and hug women while campaigning, and an April speech in Pittsburgh launching his campaign, when he struggled with words.
