I honestly can't choose between them. IMO Sen Warren is head and shoulders above everyone else on policy, but Sen Harris has those intangibles in her favor...if I felt like she were more sure-footed on policy issues, I'd go with her.

I think that Trump might want Harris to become the nominee because of her lack of experience in the private sector, her lack of experience with foreign policy (not that Trump had any himself except for the deals brokered with the Russians, Saudis, Israelis, etc.), her lack of experience on economic policy, and that the election would come down to racial issues which would rally Trump's base. I also do not see her flipping any of the states that Trump won in 2016 which makes me wonder if she can be elected.

I do believe that Harris is a great prosecutor and senator, but those skills do not equate to being a great president or being able to promote or negotiate legislation. While I know that she hasn't been able to accomplish much in this area because Republicans controlled the Senate since she was elected to office, I'm aware of only one idea that Harris has only put forward (setting up the fund to help promote housing for minorities) since she began her campaign. I'd like to see her take the lead on more proposals than being a follower or indecisive like she has shown on occasions.

Harris had the advantage in the first debate since everyone wanted to attack the front-runner. It will be interesting to see how well she defends her positions now that she has garnered more attention. There is plenty of time for her to make a case and change my impression of her, but there are a few candidates that I would put ahead of her at this particular instance in time.

Good luck to her and to all of the other candidates.

our president? He was the first black man and she would be the first black woman to rise to the presidency and I find that exciting and something the sane voters could get behind. It would rally the black women's vote which is the heart and soul of our Democratic politics. I think she would be a great ralllying force for the Dems...

in office.

Obama had both state and federal legislative experience. His federal experience in the Senate included time when the Democrats were in the minority and majority. He even achieved some successes with the Lugar-Obama initiative on conventional weapons and the Coburn-Obama Transparency Act while Bush was president.

While Harris might be able to rally the base of black women's votes, the question of whether that would be enough to win a general election still remains because black women have been the base of the party for a few elections. While Harris could rally the base in our party, I can also see where she could also rally the base of the Republicans voters.

Finally, from a Texas perspective I don't see Harris having any coattails down the ballot. The Democratic Party made up a lot of ground in the 2018 midterm elections. I could easily see that slip back to the numbers before midterms which means more gerrymandering and perhaps 7-8 congressional seats that Democrats would forfeit for the next decade. While I admit that is selfish, after living under Republican policies for more than 25 years I would like to see some change because if Texas ever becomes reliably blue, then the Republicans won't ever win a national election again.

you foresee? How would you feel about a Harris/O'Rourke ballot? I think it would bring in lots of Beto supporters, Texas Democrats who would work for the ticket in their state in 2020.

I like Beto a lot. I think he is an attractive candidate. But we are way overdue for a woman president, embarrassingly so. I used to like a Harris/mayor pete ticket but I just don't think this country is ready for an openly gay white man married to another man. Pete is excellent and I love to hear him speak. But I think we have to steel ourselves for bitter ugliness as we approach and live in 2020. Good god.
