(2,113 posts)And he used the same "I can't speak Spanish because..." excuse. He is younger than I am and from Texas, where many people speak Spanish. They required two years of a foreign language in high school. I am sure they offered Spanish in school and just like Beto did, he could have learned it in school if he wanted to communicate with people in Spanish. He chose not to.

(25,183 posts)I just assumed that Castro spoke Spanish. No wonder he's having trouble getting out of low digits in the polls. I assume that a fair percentage of Democratic voters are of Latino heritage, I figured that he'd do well once he announced his candidacy.

If you create in a loophole that someone can be prosecuted for crossing the border if the person is supposedly a threat (without enough evidence to prosecute that person under any other law) then the next Republican administration will use the loophole for the same policies as Trump.
Beto O'Rourke is advocating a loophole.
