They are pretty much splitting the same base of voters.
If they both stay in thru Super Tuesday, neither survives to be the alternative to Biden.
The best thing for Biden is that they (and even Harris and Pete) also stay in.
The larger the field, the earlier Biden wraps up the nomination.
Just my .02.

4. Actually Sanders should drop out. It is pretty clear that he isn't moving beyond his base. Warren

on the other hand not only has her base, but beyond, and not just disenchanted Sanders voters from 2016 IMHO.

Problem I see for both of them at this point in time is capturing the red states in the primaries

I think your analysis is right on, but there is no way Sanders will drop out, his ego is too big, and Warren has absolutely no reason to drop out since she has momentum on her side, which Sanders doesn't

I am pretty sure Sanders is hoping for a brokered convention, which would not be a good thing for party unity, and potentially leave us divided for the general election

While National Averages are interesting, they are not a true measure of how the individual states will fare, and it is states that determine delegates, not National polls

7. Warren is the better candidate and may well be the best in the field.
