I'm not the only one to see Biden as 'weak, fumbling'

"From a climate perspective, what’s worrying about Biden isn’t just his hodge-podge climate proposals and promise to return to an Obama-era status quo on decarbonization. It’s his consistently weak, fumbling performances that show how easy a target he’d be for Donald Trump to pick off in the general election. We should be grateful that other candidates went after Biden. Hopefully there’s more of that to come."

-Kate Aronoff: ‘Climate disaster Joe Biden failed to impress’

Write a book, go on a tour book, make speeches, enjoy the family, travel around the World, support your fellow Democrats. So much he can do besides run for President.

I fear that if those who support Biden think that Biden was mistreated last night, which he was not, they have not seen anything yet. I am convinced the republicans want Biden to be the nominee, he seems to be his best punching bag, and that "fear" the creature pretends to show about Biden is just bait for Democrats to elect him because the creature knows Biden is easy picking.

He fumbled big time last night and lets not forget that he was asked the first question and he immediately went after Harris, I guess he was holding some grudges from the first debate when Harris called him out.

Everyone, please listen to what Michael Moore had to say last night, he makes a lot of sense, and I am not a fan of Michael Moore but we have to accept that he was right the first time and he seems to be right this time as well.

He's certainly not progressive (at least compared to BS and EW) and I think without the "cover" of a zillion candidates he'll not be able to come across as a "strong" candidate than can withstand a direct assault and look (sorry) weak.

I am kind of worried that Trump would be able to get under his skin in a debate. I am not worried Biden would completely lose it, but I am worried it could throw him off and make Biden prone to making mistakes.

Biden strikes me as someone who is naturally disposed to wearing his emotions on his sleeve. It can make you charismatic, but I think it also makes you susceptible to a bully like Trump if he can get to you.

It was an improvement. Maybe all (or most) of the rust will be off come September. It doesn't help when the moderators allow and encourage a sustained dogpile about issues (1970s bussing again, for real???) that have jack shit to do with beating Donald Trump or putting this country back on the right track.

Hopefully a smaller stage and more effective moderation with give us something substantive to talk about after September's debate. In the age of Trump, I'm a little sick of our petty, venal, polipop media latching on to dumb shit.

In the meantime Biden will still lead the polls and still raise millions and people will forget that he had to spend all night parrying cheapshots aimed more at his and Obama's record than the snarling clown in the Oval Office.

Biden did ok, but he needs to get his inspiring charisma back. He needs to talk about his life and tragedies. I had forgotten his first wife and daughter died.

Yes, he had to fend off attacks from the other nine candidates as well as the three moderators (not to mention the hecklers in the audience), but whoever our nominee is will need this trial by fire practice before heading into any debate against Trump. Let's not forget that while Clinton was a clearly superior candidate in almost every way, Trump's ability to not only withstand or deflect her criticism, but turn it around on Clinton (admittedly in most cases through lies and distortions) helped Trump if not "win" those debates, at least not giving the impression that he's the complete moron many think him to be. If Joe is as incapable of withstanding this criticism, I would hate to see how he fares against Trump.

(For the record, Harris was one of my "losers" last night, so please don't mistake my preference as clouding my vision. When it comes down to it, I don't much care whether the Dems nominate Harris, Biden, or a five year old fruitcake. I'll be voting for our nominee in the general, period.)

I'll concede that the format, with ten candidates on stage and fire coming from every direction, is challenging. And no doubt Biden improved dramatically on his performance in the first debate. However, there were still several unforced errors (like not being able to get his own donation site correct). He was better, but still has a lot of room to improve.

Also something to consider, the job of President does not allow the holder to always focus in on one task or problem at a time. If Biden has difficulty multitasking now, does that give weight to concerns about his age?

The bar was so low for Biden that even his bad performance last night seems to be an improvement, but enough of his performance, that is not what bothers me about Biden, it is his vision for the future which is nothing but to keep the status quo. And as I have said many time, the republicans will eat him alive.

And just a reminder, he was the one who attacked first, he went after Harris when he had the privilege of being asked the 1st question.

I agree with you, I think Harris did very bad last night. Booker and Gabbard did the best. I am not a fan of Gabbard, but I have to recognize that she was eloquent, didn't miss a beat, and only once did she exceed her time, she was on message.

This is exactly what we can expect this time. I would argue that I believe our nominee CAN counter that during the debates with Trump, but it must be someone who is forceful enough to get their message through, while being respectful enough to show Trump's boorish behavior as what it is - lies and hate. It's not a terribly fine line, but I believe Hillary would have done better if she had been expecting it and planned appropriately. And I don't see how someone who is not capable of withstanding democratic talking points during the primary debates will suddenly be in a prime position to counter Trump should they get that far. (That's not a dig at Biden - it applies to all of the Dems.)

Of course you are free to disagree, and that's one of the many things that makes our party great. We can disagree and still work together towards a common goal.

Judging a person's whole experience on that basis isn't a fair consideration.

We can chew on the meaning of his style endlessly.

IMO, content and context of his record overrides any facial behaviors in an onstage context.

Wait for the polls to get a bigger snapshot.

You're entitled to your opinions. That said, what matters is what the public saw, not what any one of us saw.

Those of us who have followed his life of public service over decades, read his books, been inspired by his speeches, witnessed his superior qualifications on several fronts, just haven’t analyzed his hair, teeth, and face to read his character.

Once word gets out, polls showing him to be running ahead may change overnight. We need to become more petty and spiteful if we are to honestly evaluate Biden.

Flattering colors and all the rest of what you wrote are style choices, and don't have anything to do with authenticity. Authenticity is being comfortable in your own skin. When a Hollywood actor resorts to surgical procedures you understand it. An actor's livelihood depends on his looks. When a politician—especially one who boasts of authenticity—does it, you can't help but wonder why.

win . I hope most ignore debates and mixups but I could not . His closing was mixed up . I read it was suppose to be Text JOIN @30330 and his team had to scramble in case people did decifer and then change to Joe ,if true ,a double mess up.

A Pete B supporter immediately snatched Joe30330.com where many debate watchers listening would go

His Snapchat is a weird . Sure young people are interested but the stereotypical pandering is not what is wanted imo. Sanders got a whole lot of young voters without trying to be hep

Twitter versions , many, joe30330 are having fun with him and I know older people here will say Who cares? But social media now is important as a tool even if older folks do not use it . It could bring him some bad public eye if he doesn’t get better
Tools take some thought and skill
You can use a hammer to pound in a nail or injure your thumb

I want to support him but I was like this last night

That's something that I would expect from a trump supporter but disappointed and dismayed to hear it from any Democrat. They may not have found the bottom yet, but they are getting close to it.

I always look at previous articles and opinion pieces by the author. This person writes for the Intercept, and has written unfavorably about Biden and Obama in the past. When an opinion writer comes in with obvious previous negative thoughts I pretty much discount whatever they have to say.

NONE of the other candidates come close to Joe Biden's appeal to the greatest number of voters. The other candidates can't sell themselves on their own merits, so they must resort to attacking Joe Biden, the established front runner, in an attempt to save their own failing campaigns. Joe Biden will be the victor and the Democratic candidate in 2020.

what the public sees.

There's nothing that Trump could bring up about Biden's past that Biden couldn't match with truckloads of dirt on Trump.

ANY of our candidates could do the same. Any single one.

Trump doesn't have enough policy knowledge of climate change in his whole fatass carcass to pick off ANY of our candidates in a general election. Just how 45 talks about climate change is more weak and fumbling than any 80 year-old in their sleep.

For Aronoff to give the dirtier fighter more power and win potential, when only 19.5% of the country voted for this ratfucker, is to be a Trump chump.

The world has made it clear that it doesn't want another dirty fighter president from the U.S.

"Weak and fumbling." Can you give examples? Quotes, not interpretations?

The clearest way for you to see Biden is through the primary voting outcomes. It's not about what we see. This primary season is about what the voting public sees.

He doesn’t have the presence to go toe to toe with trump. If he is the nominee, we will lose.

I readily admit that Biden is far too conservative for my taste, but that’s not the real problem. The real problem is that trump will pummel him and he won’t be able to fight back effectively.

I will vote — enthusiastically — for the eventual nominee, but I desperately hope that the nominee will be someone who can win.

When he called it down on Trump , he spoke to and for the American people, (everybody) . (And we are not going to leave it to you Trump.) In order to reach the soul of the nation ,as he says he wants to, it's all about everybody. If he can reach that far and down into it ,regards the soul of America, if the message resonates, the republican base will divide .
