Nate Silver tweets on which candidates he thinks political journalists favor

I'd guess that if you surveyed journalists involved in reporting/ editing major political stories on who they'd vote for personally, the big winner would be Warren, although with Buttigieg, Harris & Sanders also outperforming their support in the general population.

A fairly large problem for a lot of Bernie's Chomskyian attempts at diagnosing the sociology of the media is that Warren generally gets pretty favorable coverage, which suggests that Bernie's issues might have more to do with the messenger than the message.

That's been my take, too, based not only on reporters' stories but on their tweets.

The vast majority of reporters writing about politics do NOT want Biden to be the nominee. He isn't their favorite, and he's in the way of their favorite becoming the nominee.

Hence the obsession with Biden's gaffes, the articles asking whether he's too old (when you don't see similar articles about Warren and Sanders), the suggestions that he's a "weak" front-runner though he's been the front-runner since last year, according to Real Clear Politics.

Editing to add that Silver probably knows a lot of these journalists, too, or knows people who know them, so he probably has more info on their biases than I can glean from the stories and tweets they write.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

lash out at the media when they say something disagreeable about him

7. Yeah, quoting him because horror of horrors he referred to himself as VP when speaking at Parkland

or when he was so proud of a little girl who had an ambition to be president, that he presented her before the media.

and he doesn’t blame his deficiencies on Bezo, which one candidate makes an unfounded implication that Bezo tells the WP to be mean to him

8. Speaking of which, WaPo has been very kind to Joe

the last two days, for those keeping score. Successive opinion pieces by Waldman and Capehart saying the same thing; ignore the gaffes.

10. Two opinion pieces that weren't anti-Biden, as opposed to how many opinion pieces and articles

about his gaffes?

Keep in mind that the only reason those two pieces had to be written was because of the ridiculous focus on Biden's gaffes.

21. Their reader's comment section was full of praise for Biden's speech to the nation. Maybe that fact

pushed them to try to give the appearance of fairness, when in fact, they have not been. Capeheart also wrote an opinion lauding Biden’s speech.

If Biden were, in fact, the walking gaffe machine media portrays, it is a wonder he is respected here and abroad, managed to mount and maintain one of the more successful careers in American politics, and that Obama entrusted him with Iraq (Joe visited it eight times), gun control, reviving the VAWA, negotiating on his behalf with congress, and in speaking wide and far on behalf of the Recovery Act and ACA.

5. In one case where a candidate is the target of an ugly "smear campaign" this has been insidious.

It just shows,” says Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, “that launching a smear campaign is the only response to the truth.”

Gabbard, 38, burst into headlines after a July 31 Democratic Party presidential debate, when she went after California Senator Kamala Harris’s record as Attorney General of the State of California. The “smear campaign” refers to the bizarre avalanche of negative press that ensued, as reporters seemed to circle wagons around a Harris, a party favorite.

<snip>

Having wounded a presumptive frontrunner backed by nearly $25 million in campaign funds, Gabbard instantly became the subject of a slew of negative leaks, tweets, and press reports. Many of these continued the appalling recent Democratic Party tradition of denouncing anything it doesn’t like as treasonous aid to foreign enemies.

Harris national press chair Ian Sams tweeted, “Yo, you love Assad!”, a reference to Gabbard’s controversial visit with Syrian president Bashar al-Assad in 2017. He then tweeted a link to an insidious February 2 NBC News story, which asserted that Gabbard’s campaign was the beneficiary of Russian bots.

To set the record straight:

".... Gabbard agreed to meet with Trump to make her case for a noninterventionist foreign policy. A few months later, she flew to Syria and met with Bashar al-Assad, who is presiding over a brutal civil war; she and he seemed to agree that the United States should not intervene to stop it."

"I guess that if you surveyed" has no basis in reality.

election l, showed the 5 point lead from the Democratic not miner completely disappear, and his poll numbers reflected

That is the basis that in reality

Along with the LIE that the media propagated after Er that release that the email investigation had been reopened

Nothing to see here though

30% is not zero. He also had Trump trending upward at a time when many thought the race was over.

18. That entire twitter thread was cringeworthy...

When did the left start hating Nate Silverman? I mean we all felt let down in 2016, but he was the one pundit/statistician/prognosticator giving Trump a chance in hell. I believe he pegged his chances at about 28% and was the only one to point out that he stood a much greater chance of winning the EC and losing the popular than the other way around.

25. LOL, I didn't know journalists could say that

But yeah, Warren and Harris get awfully good press, Pete too. Bernie got the golden-boy treatment last time, and complained about it even then, LOL. But for some reason he never gets blackballed which is what would have happened if Al Gore, Barack, Hillary, or Joe ever uttered a syllable of dissatisfaction with their lousy press coverage.
