Ryan, who wont qualify for next presidential debate, criticizes the process
U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, who wont qualify for next months Democratic presidential debate, sharply criticized the selection process.
Its horse (expletive), he said. Its not a fair process. Were weeding people out in August. Bill Clinton didnt get into the [1992] campaign until October 1991. Theyre trying to shut out the more moderate voices of the party. To start eliminating people now isnt fair.
Ryan reported he had about 13,000 donors as of June 30. Thats since grown, he said without giving specifics. But its not close to the 130,000 needed. Also, he hasnt polled at 2 percent in any qualifying poll since June 28.
(snip) Other candidates are getting out and stumbling while weve been getting a ton of media, Ryan said. Were going to keep going. Were continuing to build this out. Im running a start-up operation. Im in it to win it ... Im the kind of candidate who can catch fire and all of a sudden you get name ID"
Ryan warned Democrats not to select a left-wing nominee such as U.S. Sens. Bernie Sanders of Vermont or Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts as the nominee.
Well be so far left that well be in trouble getting to the center in the general election, he said. Nobodys talking about the economic message (but me). Ive said it since I ran against Nancy Pelosi (for Democratic leader in 2016). The country, I think, is on a sugar high with the economy. Its being held together with bubble gum and string. Were seeing that now.

(68,552 posts)not be able to run which I doubt will happen. I don't like Sanders as many here know, but he forged relationships in the states we need...it is all about winning a general. Tim Ryan is a great guy...worked a number of his campaigns. He was my congressman until I moved to Cleveland. He has helped many of his constituents including Delphi workers who were shafted during the GM bankruptcy.

(3,255 posts)He is a good example of why we got our ass kicked in 2010. The go slow, be very afraid of the bogeyman school. The Reublicans didn't get more votes than in 2008 but the Democratic voters of 2008 didn't show up. You don't run on the staus quo when voters want change.

(68,552 posts)don't think you understand the state very well...the voters showed up in Ohio and they voted for the guy who promised fair trade and other goodies...this area never really came out of the financial 2008 debacle. Now Trump lied and actively disparaged the union in Lordstown...so Ohio is up for grabs with the right candidate...Biden is ahead of Trump in this state.

(25,469 posts)He was on Real Time saying that Democrats ignore the working class like coal miners: "We didn't even go into states like that. We didn't go into rural America." Bill Maher says, "Hillary did." Ryan ignored his comment and continued in his whiny voice, "And we turn around and ask 'Why don't these people vote for us?' We don't go there." HILLARY DID.
