A few words from Michael Moore

Last night on CNN at their Climate Change Town Hall, a student asked Joe Biden, who had months ago pledged to take NO fossil fuel money, why he was having an NYC fundraiser tonight hosted by Andrew Goldman, the founder of the natural gas co Western LNG. Biden denied Goldman had anything to do with fossil fuels and tried to change the subject. Anderson Cooper wouldn’t let him. Cooper told Biden exactly who Goldman was. Biden pretended to be surprised. Cooper then asked him if he was still going to attend the fundraiser. Biden said if it’s true, then he’d have to reconsider. Cooper said it was true and now CNN is reporting that Biden is indeed attending the fundraiser tonight. Wow. This is so stunning — and I’m sure depressing for the good people who like Biden.
Listen— We can NOT go through this again, my friends. As with Hillary taking GoldmanSachs $$ and then trying to pretend nothing happened, we can NOT risk this again. Our base will stay home once more if Biden is the candidate and it’s politics as usual. If they see he’s in cahoots w/ Fossil Fuel, that he has lied,
they will not say, “So what — Trump’s a bigger liar!” They will just give up. Trust me on this. We need a completely honest and authentic candidate, the Anti-Trump, a street fighter, someone who when they say they’ll take NO fossil fuel $$, they not only keep their promise, they will go after tooth-and-nail and put somebody like Andrew Goldman out of business. They don’t attend a fundraiser of his fat cats!
Joe — you’re driving there right now! For God’s sake, turn your limousine around immediately and apologize to the American people.
You think u can beat Trump. So what! Hillary beat him! Didn’t matter! We need a candidate who will CRUSH him because that candidate has INSPIRED a tsunami of voters with her or his INTEGRITY and his/her progressive vision of what the 21st century should be. That, Joe, isn’t you.
Finally, last night you said that we are only 15% of the climate change problem — “85% of it is the rest of the world’s (fault).” Are you serious? Wall Street, Corporate America, the poor everywhere who make our goods for us, our exploitation of the entire planet — please, Joe, stop.

Update: September 4, 2019

Biden was asked about the fundraiser during the CNN climate town hall, and initially denied that Goldman is a fossil fuel executive. Anderson Cooper followed up to let him know that Goldman was a co-founder of Western LNG, and Biden said he would look into it. Later in the forum, Cooper clarified to Biden that he had been told Goldman doesn’t have “day-to-day” responsibilities at the firm. Biden said that he was told by staff that Goldman “did not have any responsibility related to the company, but if that turns out to be true, then I will not in any way accept his help.”

After the forum, Symone Sanders, a Biden spokesperson, dug in, insisting that Goldman is not really involved with the firm he co-founded. But Splinter News dug up a Canadian filing from last year that asks, “Please briefly identify the other senior management personnel involved with Western.”

The answer: “Western is managed by a seasoned team of executives experienced in the LNG and related energy infrastructure industries. Western’s co-founder is Andrew Goldman, Chief Investment Officer of Hildred Capital Partners. He is a long-term investor in the liquefied natural gas sector.” An industry press release from 2018 also speaks about Goldman as having a present-tense role in the company and describes him as “a long-term investor in the liquified natural gas sector.” He’s also the second person listed under “leadership” on Western’s site.

92. Upon reading that NBC article about the leaked speech,
Fri Sep 6, 2019, 10:18 AM
Sep 2019

here's what stands out. It was leaked. Why did it have to be leaked? NBC calls it "emails that purport to show transcripts of the remarks Clinton delivered to audiences of Goldman Sachs employees in 2013". The very next paragraph starts by stating that it was unverified. The source was Wikileaks.

I'm not interested in CT about the speech, or in participating in calling her "crooked Hillary". Clearly she would be far far better than MF45, and in fact, she won and republicons stole it.

Here's why it mattered to me. Early in the primaries, it was expected to come down to Clinton and Bush. Wall Street stated that they were the favored candidates. https://www.newsweek.com/bush-and-clinton-are-wall-streets-favorite-candidates-384479

In 2014, Banksters also declared that they didn't care whether Bush or Clinton won. https://theweek.com/speedreads/454351/wall-street-love-hillary-clinton-vs-jeb-bush-2016 From that short article: "If it turns out to be Jeb versus Hillary we would love that and either outcome would be fine," a "top Republican-leaning Wall Street lawyer" told Politico.

I don't see Jamie Dimon as being the kind of person who would pay out all that money if he expected nothing in return. FFS, he doesn't even pay his employees decently! So, yeah. I think we're entitled to find out what any politician tells Wall Street in exchange for 6 and 7 figure payouts. And when Wall Street lawyers are saying they don't care between two candidates, that tells me that I'd better watch my back because my well-being and Wall Street's conflict, they don't coincide.

Finally, if for nothing else, it's bad optics. Being secretive obviously will lead to speculation. Just look at all the speculation we have about MF45's taxes.

... have speaking fees and give speeches. I have never seen a demand for "transcripts" akin to that which was given to Hillary Clinton. Do we even have proof she kept "transcripts"? I'm sure there were occasional people recording her speaking - and they would be the ones to find for "transcripts". I think she probably had a draft of a regular speech she gave... and there were probably some alterations for each audience. She probably opened by saying something nice about Goldman-Saks people. After the speech, I expect she threw it in the trash...

If she said something newsworthy, it would have been reported... like, "I have a child sex ring in a local pizza parlor," or "I killed Vince Foster," or "I kidnapped the Lindbergh baby."

And, she did release her taxes.

Personally, I think getting millions in "speaking fees" from industries is corrupt. Whether it's paid before a candidate gets elected, or is the reward after someone leaves office. I don't think any politician should be getting millions in speaking fees.

As Hillary said in a debate, "Enough is enough. If you've got something to say, say it directly. But you will not find that I ever changed a vote because of any donation I've ever received."

Come on, Michael, show the evidence that Hillary was controlled by Goldman Sachs because she made a speech. Biden was VP for eight years, show evidence that because he's friends with the guy who held a fundraiser for him, he pushed for deregulation and fracking. Show us any evidence that a Democrat has taken fossil fuel money and changed their positions or votes. Show evidence that the 2916 primary was rigged.

You used to be very careful to fact check, you said so in one of your books. What happened? Too many CTs will really mess up a person I guess.

I don’t know that most of the country is ready for a candidate he wants and will vote that way
Maybe I’m wrong
We need to focus on winning against trump is number one for me .
Don’t forget unless something happens trump is an incumbent with a good economy / jobs report
Plus we are up against all the voting irregularities and propaganda with an electoral college system
Think trump can’t win no matter who I do not count on it
Now start talking how you want to put a lot of people out of business
Independents make up a large voting portion who can swing either way along with minorities who traditionally will vote for the democrat in the elections . New youth voting for the first time not all necessarily as left as Moore
I think the party needs to look to these other factions who can come out to vote Dem and assume that these types like Moore will not cooperate with the mainstream dem party if it is Biden or Harris who wins the most primaries .
Their time will then be spent fighting the dem candidate Waste all resources courting them is not going to get them to the polls. They will just assume that means they have more influence then they really do if attention is paid to them for votes imo
I don’t even have a favorite dem candidate that is how much getting rid of trump means to me.
Yes I just want to beat trump unfortunately that is my “inspiration” but I already hear people say they won’t necessarily just vote for anybody but trump.
I do notice none of those declaring that stance belong to any of the groups under attack by magats so maybe like Moore they are more likely to take a chance because if trump wins again they are not directly affected other thAn climate change.
Plus on thatsubject , if they think once again both R&D candidates are just the same , to them it really will not matter

Michael Moore also supported Ralph Nader. He's also said that there's "no difference" between Bush-2 and Gore. He's no friend of Democrats. He hates the Democratic party. He honestly gives the appearance of WANTING the Democrats to fail so that he can have some personal and selfish satisfaction. He's no different than Stein-supporters: Susan Sarandon, Nina Turner, David Sirota, and Cornell West. I can't stand him... his attacks on the party... his negativism... his desire to see the party fail... his desire that the GOP prevails... OR his greasy unwashed hair.

Negativity generates apathy.
Apathy discourages voter turnout.
Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections.

I think the best strategy here is to lift one’s chosen candidate up with positive information. That’s the way to bring new supporters on board.

Negative campaigning and character attacks against a candidate a person doesn’t like with personal character attacks and highly spun negative articles will get pushback won’t help bring in new supporters.

I saw a Warren supporter say that Biden is a liar or senile. How in the world does that help Warren gain new voters on DU?

I am sure you’ve similar character attacks on Sanders.

So I wish everyone at DU would lift up their own candidates. Policy discussion differences are great too.

This just puts people on the defensive, as if they are too stupid to make an informed decision, when we all know we are going to vote for whoever wins the primary. I fear it is just putting people off, and it is demoralizing.

agreeing with him. This is a case where I agree. The lustre is departing from Joe. If he keeps being the man who can crush Trump I will consider him the best chance. I support Ms. Warren because she has her stuff together. Time will tell. I hope all those who are saying "but look how he polls against Trump" will change their candidate if he falls behind Ms. Warren or another. There is so much time. I love Joe Biden as a man and as a former great. It remains to be seen if he can go the distance.
