2020 Democrats push back on Castro exchange with Biden: 'So personal and so unnecessary'

The Hill

Several candidates told reporters in the spin room following Castro's remarks that the former secretary's rhetoric onstage had verged on Trumpian, according to CNN.

"It feels like something that Donald Trump might tweet," Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) told CNN, adding that the attack was "so personal and so unnecessary."

"I've seen this movie before in the last election," added Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), who added that Castro's concerns about Biden were "legitimate."

"But you saw the way I did it. It wasn't a cheap shot," he added of his own past clashes onstage with the former vice president.

South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) also took aim at Castro onstage Thursday night over the tenor of Castro's remarks.

To defend himself without correction.

Mathews read Biden’s words back to him. For once I applaud Mathews.

BYE, Castro. You squandered your potential by showing your underlying desperation (and cruel streak).

This is clearly ageism. Booker, learn from Kamala and the other guy who tried to attack Joe:u are not going to further yr political ambitions by doing that. Now go to your room for timeout.

Of course I would vote for him over Trump But Castro just made a long shot gamble on becoming relevant. And he lost.

No way he is our nominee. Probably the only thing he did is throw away any chance of being our VP choice, and going into the debates I thought he had a fairly good chance of ending up on the ticket in the second slot.

It was a mistake on Castros part, it was not even close to what trump will do to the nominee, if they have a debate. You have to remember trump is a narcissist, and they play dirty, period. What happened here wasn't even close to how dirty trump will play in the general election.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
