Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumEveryone takes their turn on the Merry Go Round...as the Haterade is spewed in the faces of
the candidates,,,Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders have been spinning around.. while others throw rocks at them.. but that only goes on for so long.. everyone who is going to be in for it for the long run, will have a spin on that Merry Go Round and have to dodge those rocks..
( I remember almost crying at the incoming that President Obama had to take from our side, as he pulled this country out of mire we were in .. and yes Joe Biden was right next to him)... it takes a special person to stand up under that...
And I always think and hope we will do better the next time and not try to destroy the people who are running with personal attacks under the guise of "testing them" or I always hated this one.. "holding their feet to the fire".. but it just seems to get worse.
I can always hope..

(42,862 posts)The hatred of the Democratic Party & Democrats in general appears to originate from a single source. That's what really needs to come to an end. Here's the thing... when anyone uses the primary process to smear and denigrate the party (and Democrats in general) those things only serve to divide us and create suspicion and resentment. Negativity generates apathy. Apathy discourages voter turnout. Low voter turnout gives Republicans a chance to steal the elections.

(28 posts)I wish instead of going after one another they'd come (at least some of the time) to a consensus on (or against) status quo policies.

(3,148 posts)in some ways, the primaries are about learning how to dodge those rocks now before they really start flying in the general.
I mean I don't care to see Democrats tearing each other up, and we shouldn't give the other side any ammunition they wouldn't have anyway. But the worst that any of the contenders is going to throw at each other is nothing compared to what the Republicans are going to try to do to them in the general.
Primaries have to be Darwinian. If anyone has a fatal flaw, an Achilles heel, better to find it NOW. I recall how close we came to nominating Edwards; he seemed like the real deal and able to go all the way; if he'd been the nominee in 2008.......
And for all the revulsion and scorn sometimes heaped on those in the 'fly-over states', whoever we nominate *MUST* appeal to them, decisively, period, and sometimes those of us in the bubble wherein Biden is considered 'too conservative' and Mayor Pete too white and middle of the road aren't the best judge of that; sometimes it takes attacks to define and discover, even if we feel those attacks go too far, that's the process and there really isn't an alternative; like boxers training right before the title bout, punches will be thrown than can actually hurt, nature of the game.
