Or do you have a higher opinion of AOC than you do of Rep. Pressley? At least until Pressley 'comes around."

(5,551 posts)WESTERVILLE, Ohio Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, a star of the progressive left, plans to endorse Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont for the Democratic presidential nomination at a rally this weekend, Mr. Sanderss campaign said Tuesday night. Also on Tuesday, Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota endorsed Mr. Sanders.
Ms. Ocasio-Cortez will appear at Mr. Sanderss Bernies Back rally in Queens on Saturday. Earlier Tuesday, his campaign had teased that Mr. Sanders would have a special guest at the event.

(1,898 posts)Others may try to dismiss this with statements such as, "Ayanana is the only member of The Squad who matters." Sober, disinterested analyses point to the YUGE symbolism of this YUGE triple endorsement.

(32,640 posts)isn't valid or informed?
Because that's what "she'll come around" sounds like.
Think about how you would react to someone saying that "Bernie will 'come around' to the conclusion of non-partisan health policy experts that his plan for Medicare for All isn't really feasible."

(1,898 posts)There's no doubt in my mind that, if 3 members of The Squad come out publicly for Bernie, and he stumps for them in their districts, as he already has committed to doing for AOC and Ilhan, Ayanna will see the potential win-win of endorsing Bernie and the political revolution.

(1,898 posts)I have 1 point and 1 point only:
It makes sense that, given the close friendship among the members of The Squad, Ayanna will be predisposed to pay closer attention to Bernie than she might have otherwise. I guarantee that she has asked herself, "Hmm, what do Alexandria, Ilhan and Rashida know which I don't?"
I only assert that, given this watershed moment in the Democratic primary, the events of last night will improve the odds of Ayanna's considering (not choosing, considering) a reciprocal endorsement offer from the Sanders campaign. My statement regards strategy and tactics, not psychiatry.

(32,640 posts)when you say "she'll come around," and finally fall in line with Sanders and AOC, Omar and Tlaib.
I'm not doing any psychoanalyzing of Pressley, I'm pointing out how the language of your characterization of her dissent from Sanders and Tlaib, Omar and AOC comes across as portraying that dissent as being somehow less than an intelligent, well thought out, informed decision.
You're welcome.

(1,898 posts)If she has not endorsed yet, then the decision by Alexandria, Ilhan and Rashida to endorse Bernie will have an influence on her. How you can see that as a leap escapes me. From there, I speculate with confidence that she will endorse Bernie. I offer no guarantees but also don't find it a logical stretch in any way. In fact, I see it as common sense.
In the 2008 cycle, I ran for Congress as a Democrat. Mike Gravel offered to endorse me, in person, to my face. For a variety of reasons, I didn't pursue it. Even still, it was a great honor to receive such a commitment from a distinguished senator. It was a pinnacle in my life. I remember it as if it were yesterday and can tell you that, if a candidate or incumbent in a neighboring district had endorsed Clinton or Obama via a reciprocal arrangement, I would have paid very close attention and given due consideration to pursuing a similar endorsement.
If, in fact, such an arrangement had come to pass, my campaign would have done far better than it did.

Still not a positive characterization of Rep. Ayanna Pressley's judgement.
How you think it might be considered as such is beyond me, or how you think that her "not endorsing Bernie's rival" is somehow proof of your thesis that she simply needs the guidance of others to "do the right thing," and "get on board.

(1,898 posts)You seem to be the one questioning her judgment. In no way did I claim that she erred in not endorsing yet. My only point was a prediction (not a guarantee) that she will endorse Bernie and this watershed moment will be a significant factor, not just because Bernie secured 3 high-profile endorsements in 1 day but because these endorsements came from Ayanna's friends and close colleagues.
She is human. That last time I checked, the opinions of friends and family tend to weigh heavier on people than those of strangers on any subject. Ayanna is not demented. I merely point out that she will connect A to B to C and give Bernie due consideration, particularly if Faiz should reach out to her an offer a reciprocal endorsement.

(32,640 posts)Who said that she isn't "human?" You declear that she's "human," but continue to claim that isn't capable of making thoughtful decisions that dissent from Bernie and "The Squad" on her own ? You think that her "friends and family" are all on the Bernie bandwagon, and that she should defer to them?
You feel a need to state this? That's certainly interesting....
So you're saying she hasn't "connected A to B to C" , and hasn't "given Bernie due consideration?" And that a craven self interest for a reciprocal endorsement should be leveraged by the Sanders team if she doesn't "come around?"
You don't think that's rather insulting to Rep. Pressley? Are you sure you want to continue trying to "explain" how you are being "respectful" of Rep. Pressley?

Bernie. And she needs to "come around" and realize that.
That seems to be the point of your posts, albeit not so simple or straightforward.
Factually speaking.
I'm sure you'll "come around" to how unsubtle that statement is now that someone has reached out to you to tell you such.
The "shuttle" to the "planet the rest of us inhabit" leaves the "planet you inhabit" whenever you're ready.

BTW, Ayanana [sic] is the only member of "the Squad" who hasn't personally acknowledged membership in that group. She off doing her job and getting things done. Perhaps she subscribes to the wisdom of Groucho Marx?
