Poll: Iowa caucuses are 'up for grabs' as Pete Buttigieg surges into top tier

It's a new three-way race in Iowa.

Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who was initially seen as a long-shot presidential contender, has surged within striking distance of former vice president Joe Biden and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren in the first-in-the-nation Iowa caucuses, a Suffolk University/USA TODAY Poll finds.

Biden, long viewed as the Democratic frontrunner, is faltering in the wake of a debate performance last week that those surveyed saw as disappointing.

The poll, taken Wednesday through Friday, put Biden at 18%, Warren at 17% and Buttigieg at 13% among 500 likely Democratic caucusgoers.

That has to have Sanders team concerned. Certainly mixes things up. It can get very tedious reading article after article re Biden, Warren and Sanders as the only ones who can beat Trump...

of the front runners will continue to flex.

The candidates know this better than anyone else.

I think this process is a tremendous test of leadership and communication.

Lots of laps yet to go in the race.

4. Good news for Buttigieg - but reality check... He's still at 2% among AAs. And, if he wins Iowa? No,

the AAs, in SC, will not "fall in line" - just as they won't "fall in line" if Warren wins Iowa.

The kingmakers will not be predominantly white states. All roads to winning the nomination run through the racially-diverse states. This means that the black votes actually have relevance.

That being said, I can see Buttigieg in Biden's cabinet - for sure...
