I believe more Republicans would support impeachment if Trump won the election;

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by NancyBlueINOklahoma (a host of the Democratic Primaries forum).

IF Trump were to win.
My reasoning is fairly simple, which also means its probably never going to happen!
They dont want a Democrat to win, obviously. They believe Trump can win re election, but doubt that Pence could win if Trump was removed prior to 11/20.
So if Trump DOES win, then impeach him, remove him, Pence takes over & they still hold the White House. Then Pence picks Nikki Haley as VP, positioning her to run in '24; still young and formidable.

Again, this will likely never happen, mainly because I think trump will lose in '20 anyway.

Why Haley 2024? Pence could run for re-election in 2024

3. He could, but I dont think he would. They'd want that "1st woman President" prize.

Plus, he would already have been President for a few years and after 4 with trump and 3ish of his own, he may be ready to call it a day. He doesnt appear to be nearly as egotistical as others.

2. The reTHUGS will never turn on tRUMP. They're determined to go down with him. I don't see

that Pence gets that sort of cult support and besides it's not much of a turn to focus on impeaching Pence while we keep up action against McConnell and Barr. reTHUGS know that tRUMP and Pence are criminals but they're reTHUG criminals and we'll have a long bitter fight to be rid of the lot. It'd save a lot of time and effort if tRUMP. Pence, McConnell and Barr performed a mass resignation but that'll never happen either.

reTHUGS are good with conspiracy theories but I don't see them doing any deep planning to get them out of their mess since they know they're going to lose. Bigly. Hint: The time to think of strategy is before you become involved in criminal acts, strategy for avoiding them.

4. I base it on Flake saying that if the vote was SECRET, they'd have 30-35 votes to convict.

The base would certainly be pissed, but to run opposition to all who voted to convict wouldnt get trumps money. Once out, he'd no longer care about the party, he'd be back to scamming. Without him to push it, it wouldnt get nearly the votes or money needed. Traditional GOP money wouldnt support a primary challenge to an incumbent, IMO. 34 Senate seats are up in '22; but many are Dems. By '24, the revenge factor would have faded.

But its all a pipe dream anyway
