CNN poll: Biden wins the "enthusiasm" factor! A record level of enthusiasm heading into 2020

So much for that meme!

TL;DR: Biden leads Democrats and all top Democrats lead Trump

A record level of enthusiasm heading into 2020

Democratic elites may not like their choices, but voters do.

One of the most interesting nuggets from our poll is that 43% of potential Democratic voters would be enthusiastic if Biden were the nominee. Warren, at 41%, and Sanders, at 39%, post similar percentages.

I was interested if these were lower than normal, given that there are reports that party actors are unhappy with how the primary is playing out. They're hoping for someone new to jump in the race.

Well, the percentages for the leading Democrats this year look as good, if not slightly better, than the last two Democratic nomination fights at this point. Back in early November 2007, 30% said they’d feel enthusiastic if Barack Obama was the Democratic nominee. For Clinton, it was 39%. John Edwards rang in with a mere 18% on this score.

Jump ahead to 2015 and you see something similar. In September 2015, 43% said they would be enthusiastic if Clinton were the nominee. It was 37% for Biden and 31% for Sanders.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

She is very involved in Democratic politics there. She works for a voter group and some candidates. I'll not give to much information so as not to identify her.

She said when up for a vote of candidate support, Warren won. When that happened a certain group got really pissed and was rude. I won't say which group ( not Biden)

Then we talked more about Warren support and I said, "Honey, you live in a bubble". She acknowledged that that was true.
I told her about Biden's advantages in the electoral college and with base support of African-Americans. She said "that is something to really think about".

My point is that many pundits and activists live in a bubble. They have no idea what many people think.

In the real world Biden's support is solidifying and he hasn't lost any ground to speak of. As Warren has risen in the polls it's important to note that her rise did not come at Biden's expense.

Nancy, how right you are. As opposed to just reporting the state of affairs, they want to 'influence" them, but try as they may, they can't take out Biden so they keep trying to "racialize" him; or "Ukrainize" him; or he's "not what he used to be" him.

I get it.

And while I would LOVE to see Kamala Harris gain traction, I understand it’s not likely to happen. I am a practical person.

EW is not gaining favor with the African American community either, and Joe Biden has held steady throughout.

Bernie Sanders has his core, a fully engaged and enthusiastic core, but not much more.

If Biden gets the nomination, I would bet that the odds are greater than 50% that he first offers the VP slot to Senator Harris. It would balance out the ticket nicely and help inspire women, people of color, and the under 70 crowd.

I know you'd like to see Senator Harris in 2020, but hey, Biden might only stay in for 4 years. It could be Biden 2020 and Kamala 2024.

Some drunk driver (Donald trump) drove our bus off the road and into a ditch. The damage is excessive.
So, here on the bus , we have a guy that worked on that bus for 8 years and knows it inside out (Biden). I suggest we have him fix it enough to get it back home. Then we can start looking at a new bus and comparing the features of all of them to see what direction we take the new bus.
We have to be practical at this point in time. Idealism can wait a few years. They probably won't deliver a new bus to the roadside ditch we're stuck in so let's get out of it first.

Does enthusiasm = excitement? Hummmmm. I think it does. As for passion? How about this:

Joe Biden wipes the floor with Donald Trump and his odious enablers. We get to put back the pieces of our blown apart country, restore the rule of law, shore up our institutions and get on with the progress we all want to see in healthcare and climate change and a zillion other matters. We get to watch Joe Biden, a seasoned statesman, heal our foreign relations by reassuring our allies that we will rededicate ourselves to being reliable partners while giving our adversaries a heads up: we're back, suckers and we know what you did.

Restoring the soul of the country isn't a joke or a facile campaign meme. Donald Trump in three excruciating years has been devouring the heart and soul of the United States, corrupting and degrading the idea of America with his greed and cruelty. We need someone who can restore the country, who can make supporters and non supporters alike believe that restoration is possible, doable, that we can do it better despite our flaws and all the times we've fallen short.

Joe Biden has that ability. He has the passion and that's infectious, aka leadership.
