(42 posts)I received a call from a "pollster" yesterday who began the discussion by asking questions to find out who my preference was, and also asking if I was swayed by positions or accomplishments of Bloomberg. The "poll" ended with a serious of "questions" that slandered Sanders! I went to the Bloomberg Wikipedia page and it looks like a campaign biography of Bloomberg. Bloomberg is well on his way to buying the primary! That would end with a battle of 2 rich white New Yorkers that want to be President.

(36,751 posts)One remark attributed to Mr. Bloomberg went like this: If women wanted to be appreciated for their brains, theyd go to the library instead of to Bloomingdales. Another line, purportedly Mr. Bloombergs sales pitch for his eponymous computer terminal, said the machine will do everything, including oral sex, although a cruder term was used.
I guess, Mr. Bloomberg was quoted as saying, that puts a lot of you girls out of business.
When the pamphlet resurfaced during Mr. Bloombergs 2001 mayoral run, he dismissed the comments as borscht belt jokes and said he did not recall saying them. The story line receded after the 9/11 terror attacks, and Mr. Bloomberg went on to win election three times over.
But the comments revealed a cruder side of Mr. Bloomberg, now 77 and a potential presidential candidate, who made his billions in the towel-snapping culture of Wall Street decades before #MeToo became a household term.
Lawsuits portrayed the early days of his company as a frat house, with employees bragging about sexual exploits. Even after entering politics, Mr. Bloombergs cavalier attitude caused trouble: In 2012, the mayor, while admiring a woman at a party, urged two guests to look at the ass on her. Just last year, he cast doubt on harassment allegations against Charlie Rose, the disgraced CBS anchor. I dont know how true all of it is, Mr. Bloomberg told The New York Times.
What the heck is a borscht belt joke?

(5,191 posts)told by rookie comedians at Catskill mountain resorts back in the day. The audience was mostly Jewish middle class from Eastern Europe. Borscht is a soup favored by the audience, hence broach belt. Watch "Dirty Dancing" to see an example.

Thanks!

(31,261 posts)I have always been respectful toward women. But if I went back to my twenties, I have painful memories of sitting with men at work commenting on female fellow employees' looks and figures. I learned and changed for the better as time went by. Bloomberg has for a while promoted and funded policies and public action favorable to women. His company seems to have leading policies of support of female and LGBTQ employees.
If people just listen to soundbites or read directed headlines, then yes he has a big problem. But if they dig deeper, they find a person who is modeling how men should treat their female associates and employees.
