Won't come as a shock to anyone but it is chilling to hear it confirmed by one of our nominees that it's still going on.

Bernie has moved up to be my 2nd choice now ahead of Elizabeth Warren. As I take a closer look at Yang, he keeps moving up on my scale.

7. I haven't either

The only things that I know of his proposals are too far left for me.
I don't think he's wrong about someday needing a universal basic income, but I don't think we're remotely close to that. There are still plenty of avenues for people to earn an income. We just need it to be a much higher minimum wage.

56. I understand your viewpoint but I disagree with your conclusions on UBI

I believe as he does that we are in the midst of the AI revolution and we need to get this done as soon as possible. Bernie was my choice in the last go around, but as I have told many a folk in conversations that head into politics he is far too conservative for me. That generally puts an end to the discussion (particularly with the wife's family who voted for the current occupant of the WH) which gets us back to talking about their kids or recipes or restaurants and avoids awkward family gatherings.

so if I think you're way left who cares. Why do you think we need to start this now? What about getting other basic things right first before getting into basic income? With out education, healthcare, living wages, economic equality I can see basic income just suppressing people even more.

68. Why?

Because AI is very much here, jobs are disappearing for folks on the lower end of the spectrum being replaced by automation such as self checkouts and ordering kiosks. If you take time to look at his website much of what you mentioned is there. As Truman indicated, one needs to start with big ideas as they will always get reduced in the process of implementation. I agree with Yang that UBI is very much a necessary concept to provide a safety net and to grow the economy.

70. Same argument I have

with healthcare, education, minimum wage etc. We can't be timid. We fight for the far goals to get half, then keep fighting till we get there.

I find myself in a strange place. For once I'm the one that is moderate. i'm not going to tell you you're too far left or crazy. I guess I can see your point from here, just don't think we're there yet. Keep fighting the good fight though, you give the rest of us something to think about. I'll check out his site.

Next time I donate to Bernie I'll send some his way too.

9. It's not surprising as Bernie's major policy proposals whether it be

Medicare for All, lowering prescription drug prices or raising taxes dramatically on the wealthiest individuals and closing corporate tax loopholes; directly and adversely affects the corporate media's conglomerates bottom line. A direct conflict of interest with the corporate media conglomerates more concerned about themselves than which polices would be best for the American Nation.

They did the same thing to Al Gore, they trashed him but it was because he was the primary political champion for opening the Internet to the American People, thereby democratizing information and the corporate media conglomerates saw this as a threat not only to their bottom line but a diminishing of their powers to influence the American People to their corporate-centric point of view.

Thanks for the thread Power 2 the People.

31. Half true

(snip)

• Nov. 13, 2011 Politico: Sanders refused to say whether he would back the president in 2012, but said he hopes "the president never forgets who elected him to the White House. It was not Wall Street, although they contributed. It was not the big money interests. It was working families, lower-income people and the middle class." He also urged Obama to "stop reaching negotiated agreements with Republicans that are extremely weak and disadvantageous to ordinary people. ... I certainly hope and expect to be supporting the president, but it’s a little bit early in the process."

So it’s clear that Sanders was suggesting a primary challenge to move Obama to the left, experts said, but not exactly the way O’Malley phrased it.

(snip)

As a sitting senator, Sanders' comments at a minimum were provocative: He didn't think it was a bad idea for a candidate to run against Obama in the primary. He spoke positively of such a scenario several times. When Sanders endorsed Obama, Sanders said it was because Obama was preferable to Romney. That doesn’t mean Sanders was actively searching for a candidate to actually run against Obama.

We rate O’Malley’s claim Half True.

And definitely don't try to convince me of my lying eyes and ears. Obama was plenty left at that time as his 2 terms as president confirms.

40. Health care activists lament single-payer snub

Frustrated by the exclusion of government-financed medical care from the debate to revamp the nation’s troubled health system, advocates of a “single-payer” plan are increasingly turning to demonstrations and civil disobedience as a way to get their message across.

During Senate Finance Committee hearings May 5 and 12 on health reform, 13 doctors, nurses, lawyers and activists stood up to complain that no single-payer proponent had been invited to take part and were arrested for disrupting the proceedings.

On Friday in San Francisco, about 200 single-payer proponents held a rally in front of the Federal Building and headed in small groups to Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s office to urge the speaker of the House, who was in China, to back single-payer legislation and give its supporters a seat at the table of the health reform debate. The public appeals were part of a series of demonstrations being held in more than 50 U.S. cities over the next few days to encourage lawmakers to enact a single-payer plan.

(snip)

Several groups, including the California Nurses Association and Physicians for a National Health Program, call for a single-payer option. While not supported by the American Medical Association, a nationalized health system got the backing of 59 percent of physicians in a poll published last year in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

(snip)

https://www.healthcare-now.org/blog/health-care-activists-lament-single-payer-snub/

Now I know President Obama wasn't in the Congress but I do believe he could have used great influence in at least getting single payer advocates (actual health workers) a seat at the table for the discussions.

You have a great night as well revmclaren.

46. Well fact is.

There were never enough votes for single payer under Obama. Never. The President, on election night was cast aside in a private head to head meeting of Repukes led by Mitchie. They vowed to make him a one term President.

As for single payer...some history. Vermont and California tried and failed. To expensive. Taxes would skyrocket. Obama tried, never enough votes. Even BS admitted that in the end.

Now I know President Obama wasn't in the Congress but I do believe he could have used great influence in at least getting single payer advocates (actual health workers) a seat at the table for the discussions.

BS has far more time in office as Mayor, congressman and Senator...oh and Presidential Candidate times two...perhaps

38. "It was not Wall Street, although they contributed."

Wall Street. Please stop. Wall Street cannot ie Goldman Sacks can not contribute to a candidate on their own, yet you know that.

Great endorsement. Obama, the DEMOCRAT was better than Romney the REPUBLICAN.

.....................................
O'Malley: Sanders wanted Obama primaried in 2012

Martin O'Malley doubled down on his frequent campaign theme of being the only "lifelong Democrat" in the race Friday.

"I think that when President Obama was running for re-election, I was glad to step up and work very hard for him," the former Maryland governor said to Rachel Maddow at Friday's MSNBC Democratic forum.

"Senator Sanders was trying to find someone to primary him," O'Malley said regarding his rival Bernie Sanders. "I am Democrat. I am a lifelong Democrat."

Sanders was receptive to the idea of finding a primary challenger to Obama in the last election.

"I think one of the reasons the president has been able to move so far to the Right is that there is no primary opposition to him," Sanders told radio host Thom Hartmann in 2011.

A Democratic Primary challenger. That is what Sanders called for. Our first African American sitting President seeking a second term and Sanders wanted him challenged.

10. The big news for me in this, was the statement that the Corp media are still waiting to see

Who they will push. It’s not anything that wasn’t obvious in 2016 and is pretty obvious now as well. I’ve been watching them jump between a few candidates to see if one of their preferred one will take off with voters. But it’s refreshing to hear someone confirm what I witness whenever I turn on cable news or read certain newspaper articles.

Yang hasn’t a real chance but I love having these voices. Wishing him well.

What is relevant is that the corporate media puts its thumb on the scale to choose the candidate for us for their own economic purposes. That is the scary part of it all.

Please don't diminish Andrew Yang. He's a very accomplished businessman and entrepreneur. President Obama chose him as a Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship and he is very well connected to the highest levels of many professions including media.

In 2012, Yang was called a "Champion of Change" by the Obama White House.[15]

In 2015, he was again acknowledged by the Obama White House as a "Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship" (PAGE) alongside Daymond John, Brian Chesky, Steve Case, Tory Burch and several more.[32][33]

Unless one spent 2015 and 2016 in a coma there is no way one could in good faith claim the media favored Hillary.

I'm not on Facebook, that's social media, have no idea what you're talking about.

According to Harvard's Shorenstein study, during the entire campaign Hillary had a %62 negative coverage rate and %38 positive and Trump was %56 negative and %44 positive.

62. IMO, the media is primarily responsible for Trump getting

elected. He got way more media coverage than other Republican candidates, more than twice the media coverage of Hillary, and 10 times the coverage of Bernie (during the primary season). An analysis of the images published of candidates showed Trump portrayed in "victory" stances and smiling most of the time, while Clinton was more frequently portrayed with stern expressions or frowning--subtle but effective.

25. It comes from an opponent of Bernie in the primaries, that should lend some credence, not to

mention it's totally logical as I spelled out on my post #7.

44. Medicare for all started here. The mans name is John Conyers,

The United States National Health Care Act, or the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act (H.R. 676), is a bill, first introduced in the United States House of Representatives in 2003 with 25 cosponsors by former Representative John Conyers (D-MI).[1] The bill had 49 cosponsors in 2015. As of October 1, 2017, it had 120 cosponsors, which amounts to a majority of the Democratic caucus in the House of Representatives and is the highest level of support the bill has ever received since Conyers began annually introducing the bill in 2003.[3] The act would establish a universal single-payer health care system in the United States, the rough equivalent of Canada's Medicare and Taiwan's Bureau of National Health Insurance, among other examples. Under a single-payer system, most medical care would be paid for by the federal government, ending the need for private health insurance and premiums, and probably recasting private insurance companies as providing purely supplemental coverage, to be used when non-essential care is sought.

and it wasn't promote Hillary's presidential campaign. I don't care if Yang thinks Jesus told him this, it is still demonstrably wrong. The press dogged Hillary constantly and let both Trump and to a lesser extent Bernie get by with things they never would have let her get by with. We lived it. We saw it. It happened.
