Bernie has ALREADY shown you his 2014 tax returns...

2015-17 should be coming soon.
I think it's time to face facts... He and Jane have NO INTENTION of releasing them. If they were going to release ten years of their FULL tax returns, they would have done so already.

Jane and he want us to imagine that they're searching through unmarked shoeboxes of paperwork stored in their attic... only... this is not 1968. Neither he nor Jane are the technological Luddites that they're pretending to be.

There is NO "tweaking" or "adjusting" or "finalizing" or polishing that needs to be done. Fact of the matter is... if those tax returns were good enough for the IRS, then they are good enough to present to the American people.

Where are the TAX RETURNS? What are he and Jane afraid of letting us see? The American people deserve to know where their money comes from, whether taxes were paid properly and promptly, where it's being saved (domestic or offshore), and where/how it's being invested. Yet all we hear is excuse after excuse and delay upon delay. It looks fishy.

He and Jane are hiding something. They will NEVER release their full tax returns.

primary today, I would vote for:

Links to Bernie's entire 7-page tax return for 2014 have been posted here NUMEROUS times, along with references to articles reporting on it. So, in the face of that, your repeated blind statements that "What's He Hiding" Bernie only submitted a "summary page" is absolutely 100% wrong, wrong, wrong... your apparent refusal to look at it doesn't make that blind statement so. Why can't you just admit you were wrong and move on to something else?

Nice try though!! Feel free to laugh it up and keep saying it over and over and over again... go ahead, I actually LIKE that you do when the truth is so apparent and easily accessible.

Fri Mar 22, 2019, 09:56 AM
Mar 2019

...his 2015 income tax return (Jane is on video twice stating this), he released the two-page Form 1040 for 2014, the year before the promised return. After getting lots of push back and criticism, he reluctantly released the additional five pages a few weeks later. Yes, he did release the "full" tax return, but tried to get away with only releasing the first two pages, and it wasn't the return that was promised.

That 2015 return that was promised has never been released.

So there you go. Now, to quote you:

I stated that Bernie disclosed his 2014 tax returns. Another poster responded by saying, no, Bernie only submitted a "summary page" of his 2014 tax return, a factually incorrect claim that has been debunked numerous times on DU, a wrong assertion you also have made several times.

Your attempt to change the subject - understandably so! - when you knew before, absolutely, FOR A FACT that Bernie submitted a complete, 7-page tax return for 2014, yet stated it was just a "summary page," is amusing, but not a good look. Just admit you were wrong when you made that factually incorrect statement. (Nice spin, finally acknowledging that fact... but, still criticize it because it was only LATER!!)

Go ahead, say it... "yes, I was wrong before, and I apologize to Bernie and his supporters... he did submit a completed 2014 tax return when I said he did not, not just a 'summary page' as I had previously and incorrectly asserted." It's really not that hard!!

You keep trying to cloud the issue by going on about his two-stage release (first two pages, then five more pages when he couldn't get away with just the two-pager) of the tax return of a year prior to the promised return.

What's amusing is that you can't ADMIT your past mistakes on this subject and help to correct others who now are continuing to make the same one you did, rather than CHANGE the subject. Why can't you just be fair to Bernie in this ONE instance? (Not that I really care.)

But, go ahead, do it again... change the subject... Maybe someone else is interested in what you have to say and would care to respond.

....his lack of doing that by saying he did something else. And now three years later he still hasn't done it and we're hearing excuses as to why that hasn't happened.

Once again, slowly, to paraphrase them, "We'll release our 2015 income tax return at the end of the month (April)". Instead we got a two-phase release of the 2014 return, and NO 2015 tax return.

Anyone know the reason for that? In fact, not only didn't he fulfill that repeated promise, he never even submitted his FEC personal financial disclosure that all candidates are required to submit. Instead he filed for two extensions, and when the third deadline arrived he simply said "I'm no longer a candidate, I don't have to now."

For someone with "boring" finances, he sure goes to great lengths to not reveal them to the American people like all other candidates going back decades, except of course donald trump.

It sounds more like you desperately ignoring anything anyone says, so you can simply keep on saying you are right about them being wrong about something that they hadn't even said - but you claim they did and are changing the subject now...

Another example of this type of attacking a strawman is the response "SEE? NO COLLUSION!!!" every time someone points out something about an individual that has nothing to do with an accusation of collusion.

And attacking a straw man?

You are resonding to George and I, and continuing the rant at us for saying exactly the opposite of what we have actually said, because some people" are saying it, there is a demand for validation that it's "the subject" when actually, it's not what we said..

You even attacked me for not only supporting your claim with dates, even adding additional information concerning the full returns.

"Thank you," would be the appropriate response, not a demand that I apologize for anyone who didn't agree with you, and accusation (subject change, anyone?) that I was trying to create more smears by relaying the facts concerning charitable donations as per the WAPO update.

So why do you think that you continue refuse to admit that the people you are ranting at are not "changing the subject" when they are actually agreeing with you? Because you must always disagree with certain people on DU out of blind principle?

That sounds like someone so desperate to to be "the only voice of reason among those who lie" that they accuse others of 'changing the subject" when they aren't telling the lie that one wants to accuse them of.

60. To be honest, I'm puzzled. Since he's been in Congress he alone has earned more than $3.5M....
Fri Mar 22, 2019, 12:40 PM
Mar 2019

...With Jane's income at Burlington College and $200K settlement, that would probably bring their income over the years to well over $4M.

Yet prior to his book deal a year or two ago he claimed in his Senate financial disclosure that his net worth was in the range of $350-800K (the form allows for large ranges)

Ten years worth of tax returns would clear up all the questions that don't surround other candidates.

Could it be that he doesn't want his supporters to see that he may have been in that dreaded 1% for some time now? Is that why his criticism a few years ago of "millionaires and billionaires" has now been truncated to just "billionaires"?

He only just announced his 2020 presidential run barely a month ago, on February 19th. Perhaps, Bernie wants to include the 2018 tax year with his other recent tax returns in one submission... so, I think a little patience is in order.

If they've been submitted to the IRS then they are READY NOW to release to the public. No "patience" is needed.

Nobody believes this was a "spur of the moment decision"... he's known all along that he was going to run again. He's had ALL this tie to "find" his tax returns.

Perhaps, Bernie wants to include the 2018 tax year with his other recent tax returns in one submission...

For the 2018 tax year? I haven't filed yet... shame on me I guess!! How do you know they haven't also filed for an extension for the prior tax year.

I have ZERO doubt Bernie will comply and, yes, he probably wants to get all of his recent tax returns out in one fell swoop, rather than dribble them out one at a time. I trust Bernie to do the right thing, just like he always does... it would be nice if you could recognize that, maybe just this once.

Okay. Sure.

No he hasn't. This is a promise that's LONG overdue. He and Jane clearly have no intention of EVER releasing their full tax returns.

They're hiding something. Someone has made a conscious decision to keep them hidden. Someone has calculated that NOT releasing them (and dealing with the negative reactions from voters) is preferable to actually releasing them (and dealing with even MORE SERIOUS negative reactions from voters).

Someone has determined that keeping them secret is the "lesser of two evils" as far as the public's reaction will be.

it would be nice if you could recognize that, maybe just this once.
We're NEVER going to see those tax returns. He and his current wife, Jane, have been given PLENTY of chances to come through. We've been patient enough. We've given him the benefit of the doubt FAR TOO MANY times in the past.

The fact that he's delaying, delaying, delaying with excuse after excuse after excuse... that REALLY shows disrespect to the American voters. We deserve better than that.

All you can say is "Okay. Sure."?? You can't be serious... you do know that 2018 tax returns are not due to be filed for weeks from now, not until April 15, 2019?! And many people do request extensions for filing those taxes... especially busy people like those who happen to be candidates running for President of the United States.

When Bernie's taxes are done, I'm confident that he will share them, as he should, together with his other recently filed tax returns in one submission, to everyone's complete satisfaction... maybe, even yours NurseJackie.

Until then, just try to be a LITTLE BIT more patient and give Bernie the benefit of the doubt, like you say you have in the past... I know he'll come through with flying colors, you'll see.

No we won't. Just empty promises. Delays and excuses.

They're hiding something and the American people deserve to know what it is. This is so disrespectful to all the candidates who have released their full tax returns, and it show outright contempt to the American people.

Someone on his campaign (Jane, perhaps?) has decided that the fallout and damage caused by never releasing the tax returns isn't as bad as what people would think if they DID release their full tax returns.

Fri Mar 22, 2019, 12:16 PM
Mar 2019

...etc.?

Those have been completed and filed already. What's the point of putting off several years' returns waiting for something that isn't even due yet? That's just another excuse or delay tactic. He can do what others have done, post them on his campaign website and when the 2018 is completed simply add that.

I've said here on DU before that I looked for my income tax returns and was able to find 2002 and 2005 through 2017 in 2-3 minutes. They're not in a dusty old box up in the attic.

that Bernie is likely to release the 2015 return with the ones for 2016-2018, all at once, and it's just that 2018 probably isn't ready yet... but, if Bernie thought that the 2015 return, by itself, truly would be enough to satisfy, like you are saying, no doubt, he would get that one out faster.

Fri Mar 22, 2019, 02:45 PM
Mar 2019

Kirsten Gillibrand has already released 2007-2017, even before announcing, not waiting for the 2018 return.
Elizabeth Warren has already released 2008-2017, even before announcing, not waiting for the 2018 return.

I don't think anyone is interested in just 2015, they (we) expected that one three years ago. It never happened. Was he holding off back then so he could release all of them this year?

Other candidates will be releasing theirs "soon", and before you compare them to Sanders, none of the others promised to do so three years ago.

Here's a good site that tracks all of the candidates' releases.
