Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumEven though I am for Warren, my gut feeling is that Biden will take the nomination
I still base it on who people think is safest to run against Trump and when people get in the voting booth they won't be making a quick decision this time. A lot will be going through Democratic voters minds because Trump is so horrifying he absolutely has to be taken out and people will be thinking very carefully about who would match up with him the best especially on the debate stage and who has the experience on the National stage to go head to head with the nut case. Even though I like Warren's policies and I think she is a good debater I see Biden as the best match-up against Trump in a debate. (I could be wrong) Biden is extremely talented at debating and I think he would have the right charisma and toughness to go after someone as gruff and brutal as Trump effectively. I would say Warren is not far behind as she can come up with some super quick knockout blows. Not sure I see Pete Buttigieg's low key style being very effective against Trump? Hard to say as his professionalism might make Trump look foolish? Just not sure I am willing to take that chance. I could be wrong but think Sanders is going to struggle with Warren in so I think it will come down to Biden, Warren and Pete with Biden ultimately taking the nomination. I will work my ass off for any of the Dems! Love them all!

Trump can't pull his antics on Biden. For whatever reason, they just don't work on him.
The insults, the name calling, the belittling that make decent people ashamed daily that we have such a vile character in office, somehow seem to work for Trump when he attacks others for far too many people.
I haven't seen Trump put a nick on Biden, who seems to scare Trump to death. He knows Biden will beat him like a drum. This whole impeachment is evidence of how far Trump is willing to go to avoid facing him.
And Biden's warm and good character present the strongest possible contrast from Trump. Joe makes people feel safe and feel respected. Decency will win.

Yes, Biden is very warm. I remember him debating Sarah Palin and he would get this big smile and he was super respectful and friendly. He had to be careful on how he debated her and he seemed to thread the needle perfectly.

(17,378 posts)I am pretty happy with the Democratic nominee. I like Biden. I have bought all of Warren's books. I know there have some pretty big policy difference, but at least they did not make a name for themselves by attacking and throwing Democrats under the bus from the "left."
I am sure that Gabbard has a future as Fox News commentator to throw bombs at Democrats from the "left." At this point, I think it is far more likely that she is a speaker at the RNC, then the DNC.

(9,943 posts)If these impeachment hearings accomplish only one thing, it will be to clear Joe Biden. Schiff and other Democrats are going out of their way with each witness, driving home the fact all of this Trump Ukraine BS is a fantasy. And knowing how doggedly Trump clings to his loony CTs, he'll spend the entire campaign endlessly rehashing it, making him appear even more deranged than usual.

NH is a light blue state, but still pretty swingy. We constantly see Biden doing very well in hypothetical matchups against Trump in swing states. He's the best shot we have to end this nightmare.

In any event, I go on record for the umpteenth time to say that I will support and vote for whichever candidate is ultimately the Dem nominee.

(616 posts)Biden has been damaged by all of this hearing commotion. I know it's what Trump wants and we want to oppose Trump, but this job of Hunter's is not going to go away. It appears evident that Hunter was hired for his 'connection." We will hear more of it if Biden is the candidate.
Don't get me wrong. I'll vote for whoever the Democratic is.

(16,161 posts)Your fears or concern or whatever, not withstanding. You're also amplifying GOP talking points on a Democratic forum so I'm not sure what the point of that is.

(16,161 posts)We've seen breathless prognostications of Biden's assured, impending doom for what, 7 months now, and here he is, still ahead.
I suspect the race at this point is locked in until we get into the run up to Iowa in January. The holidays are coming up and people will not be paying as much attention to the race.
Additionally, we have impeachment hearings going on that are sucking up whatever bandwidth and oxygen that's out there. Hell, I forgot there was a debate tonight because I've been so into the hearings. So yeah, Biden is not assured of the nomination by any stretch, but I haven't seen anyone or anything that is happening now or likely to happen as we get into December that is going to shake things up in a meaningful way.

(1,736 posts)Based on his lengthy political experience and prominence to start the campaign, the race is his to win or lose.
I just don't want to see a repeat of 2016, when too many assumptions about the strength of the nominee, the will of the voters, and the validity of the process were proven wrong. Some of those concerns are still relevant today.
Not to mention the inherent difficulty of passing legislation that moves the needle on impending crises.
Biden is and should be the favorite. But no votes have been cast. And complacency is not our friend.
