Elizabeth Warren's organization has head start in Texas presidential primary

By Gromer Jeffers Jr.

6:30 AM on Dec 2, 2019

Elizabeth Warren has a head start in building an organization designed to win delegates in the Texas presidential primary.

The March 3 Super Tuesday contest could help determine the course of the Democratic Party presidential race, and Warren hopes her ground game and ties to Texas will help her compete at a high level.

The senator from Massachusetts has been organizing in the state since August. Warren was the first non-Texan presidential candidate to hire a Texas campaign director. With an office already open in San Antonio, Warren will also have satellites in Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and the Rio Grande Valley.

There has not been a statewide poll since mid-October prior to Beto's withdrawal and that poll showed Beto with 14%. I suspect that most of Beto's supporters are undecided, like myself.

While Warren has some times with Texas, they are concentrated more upon obtaining her education and being a teacher. She does not the activist background that someone such as Hillary Clinton had.

UT Tyler conducted a poll in early/mid November:

Biden - 28%
Warren - 19%
Sanders - 18%
Harris - 5%
Buttigieg - 8%
Castro - 3%
Everyone else - 2% or less

primary today, I would vote for:

a good percent of his supporters. Will Beto challenge Cornyn? I hope so.

He has been campaigning since 2017 so I suspect that he is looking forward to a break to spend time with his family. Cornyn also is not as vulnerable as some people on DU would have you believe. While I will vote for the Democratic candidate against Cornyn, I don't have much hope that the Democrat will win the Senate seat and I'm concerned that we may lose some of the gains that we made in 2018.

I could see that Beto might want to make a run for governor in 2022, but that is a huge question mark this far in advance.

Texas Democrats worry Senate field too weak to beat Republican incumbent John Cornyn

Note to all: The article does include the remarks of progressive activists, Democratic strategists, and a county Democratic chair so it should not be considered as right wing talking points.
