Joe Biden Gets in Furious Argument With Man Challenging Him on Hunter, Ukraine: 'You're a Damn Liar!

[link:https://www.mediaite.com/tv/joe-biden-gets-in-furious-argument-with-man-challenging-him-on-hunter-ukraine-youre-a-damn-liar/|

By Ken Meyer Dec 5th, 2019, 1:42 pm

Former Vice President Joe Biden went off in Iowa when a man confronted him about Ukraine during a town hall event.

As Biden spoke with voters in New Hampton, Iowa on Thursday, a man invoked President Donald Trump’s Ukraine scandal, but then shifted gears and brought up the ex-veep’s son, Hunter, and his former employment with the Ukrainian gas company Burisma.

“Trump has no backbone, we know that,” the man said. “But you, on the other hand, sent your son over there to get a job and work for a gas company that he had no experience with gas or nothing, in order to get access for the president. So you’re selling access to the president just like he was.”

“You’re a damn liar, man. That’s not true,” Biden interrupted. A campaign aide tried to grab the mic away from the man, but Biden told him to let the man go, and he continued to defend himself from the man telling him he’s too old to be president.

Pushing back against spurious (and disingenuous) statements is not "insulting." Or at least not in the minds of most -- as you'll find in reading on down the string.

Let's assume you were running for president.

Let's say that the current holder of the office, along with his loyal lickspittle Republican henchmen, spent most of 2019 insulting you with falsehoods, nicknames, and more.

Then let's say you were confronted by this question today.

How would you...honestly...have handled it? Not looking for political correctness. Looking at how you would handle it after having had a corrupt bully chip away at you and your family for a year.

If your answer is the same as your post, I'll respect that. Speaking only for myself, I would handle it pretty much the same way VP Biden did.

It's just human nature to get defensive when faced with outlandish accusations. But if you're running for public office, particularly the Presidency, you have to show self restraint in the face of adversity and be the bigger person. That's where Biden failed.

Here's the rest of the interchange:

“I’ve been here a long time and I know more than most people, and I can get things done,” Biden said. “You want to check my shape? Let’s do push-ups together, man. Let’s do whatever you want to do. Let’s take an IQ test. Number one. Number two, no one has said my son has done anything wrong, and I did not on any occasion, and nobody has ever said it.”

“I didn’t say you did anything wrong,” the man said.

You said I set up my son to work in an oil company. Isn’t that what you said?” Biden retorted. “Get your words straight, jack.”

The man eventually astonished the room by telling Biden “you don’t have any more backbone than Trump does.” The exchange ended with the man saying he won’t vote for Biden, to which, Biden said “Of course you’re not. You’re too old to vote for me.”

If the guy had just confronted Biden out of the blue ala joe the plummer
or started a tirade of profanities or obscenities that would be different.

Maybe it's the past four years, but I don't like it when politicians act like that.

He could have said something about "did you hear that from Fox" or "let me tell you how that isn't true." But he just spouted off, as if he and his staff hadn't predicted that this question was going to be asked at some point.

I love Joe, I truly do, and always have. He's so damn *decent*. (And Jill is ) I would absolutely trust him to make the very best decisions on behalf of the American people, 24/7/365. But he could have handled this particular situation so much better.

99. UPDATE: Voter calls him 'senile' and says he should drop out of 2020 race
Thu Dec 5, 2019, 05:15 PM
Dec 2019

After the event, the man, who refused to give his name, told reporters after the confrontation that "[Biden] is so old, he’s senile anyhow" and encouraged Biden to drop out of the race. “It was all softball stuff, he don’t want to answer the hard stuff,” the voter added. “He’s been in the Congress all of his life, and all of these problems like high drug prices and all of that — where in the hell has he been for the last 50 years?”

--President Donald Trump is facing an impeachment inquiry for pressuring Ukraine to investigate Biden and his son while withholding military aid.
--Biden’s spokeswoman Symone Sanders later claims that Biden said, “Look, facts,” not “Look, fat,” referring to the man.

...IMO, Biden should have been much more diplomatic and saved that kind of exchange for a trump debate not for Joe-six-pack...

...like the man or not, he is representing the public as the public is viewing...he represents what some are thinking...he represents what some may feel is a fair question...and most of all, when you abuse Joe-six-pack you make him a sympathetic figure in an uneven fight...

...what many may feel they've witnessed was a former Vice President of the United States hammering a common citizen with a common question the former Vice President didn't like...

...if you love Joe, then you probably thought he did well...but think again, should Joe be the nominee...if you don't think the pukes won't manipulate and play parts of this a million times before the election you're fooling yourself...

...we all have a stake in keeping all our candidates electable.. .

Biden's response was perfect.

It was an outrageous question, and it deserved an outraged answer.
