Kamala Harris goes on the veep shortlist -- even Biden's

Most pundits made two observations immediately after Kamala Harris dropped out of the Democratic primary this week.

One, as the only candidate of color to crack the top tier in 2019 or to qualify for the upcoming December debate, Harris’s departure would transform the visible ranks of what had once been the most diverse presidential primary field into an all-white affair.

And two, she could be a really good running mate for whoever winds up winning the nomination

She has always been my sentimental favorite, if not a pragmatic one. Her career is just beginning.

Joe Biden

We need turnout and shed bring it. Also the GOP would have to do some serious tap dancing around her - they saw what suburban women can do to them in Virginia

You need someone who can be a hardass in that position, she can.
Foreign experience would be as good or better than VP for 2024 or 2028
I love the idea of a woman of color repping the US on the world stage

Stacy Abrams also brings the female POC representation to the election and gives us the South, while California will go blue regardless.

any position she's offered and chooses to accept.

She's incredibly smart, would have a lot to offer and being friends with the Bidens I also tend to think she'd work very well with Joe. I'm not at all surprised she's on his shortlist.

but then, JFK selected LBJ, a major rival, so this can happen.

I think that it started with Carter-Mondale, and more so with Clinton-Gore when the V.P. really became equal.

She basically tried to make Joe Biden out to be some sort of racist, and that is a ridiculous notion.

Also, she doesn't bring any states with her, California is already reliably blue.

The Democratic ticket will win California hands down virtually no matter who is on the ticket. So picking a running mate from California might have limited political benefits. If it looks like it's going to be a close election it might make more sense to pick someone from a swing state who might help the ticket win that state. But if it looks like the ticket can win no matter who the VP nominee is then we might see her on the ticket. We shall see.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
