Warren Apologizes for Native American Claim: Campaign Update

Warren Apologizes for Native American Claim: Campaign Update

Democratic presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren on Friday apologized again for her past claim of Native American ancestry, saying she “shouldn’t have done it,” addressing a controversy that has made her a target of President Donald Trump.

“Never had anything to do with any job I ever got or any benefit,” Warren said during a campaign event in Peterborough, New Hampshire. “But even so, I shouldn’t have done it. I am not a person of color. I am not a citizen of a tribe and I have apologized for confusion I have caused on tribal citizenship, tribal sovereignty and for any harm I have caused.”

Warren’s response came after a voter asked her to explain the “confusion” during a town hall in New Hampshire. The controversy has dogged her since 2012, when Scott Brown, her Republican opponent in the Massachusetts Senate race, criticized her for identifying as Native American during her career as a law professor.

In August, she offered a public apology during a Native American presidential forum in Iowa in August.

It pales next to his own history of questionable actions and statements, but it will be an issue anyway.

adults in the room. They barely break 35% of potential voters

The really crazy part is that a lot of these wackos claim native American blood themselves.

My family has very specific stories and details of our native American blood. Last year my wife and I had the DNA test for Christmas - her family stories as well as mine went up in vapor. Not a drop between us.

When I was in drafting school in the early eighties a member of the Winnebago tribe was there also. I told him once that my family had native blood, too. He asked 'what tribe'. I told him "Cherokee".

He cracked up laughing - "All you white people have Cherokee blood!"

Screw explaining it anymore. She just needs to refer them to her many well worded apologies of the past and take the next question.

and am quite pleased with the way she handled the mistake otherwise. She is not defensive and is willing to take responsibility. She's modest and has integrity.

calling her pocahontas on 600 and then 1500 radio sstations all through the rest off the election

all republican senators know what demn senators shave no clue about - the reason those senators cannot vote to convict trump is thosse 1500 coordinated radio stations following trump golf partner limbaugh's bullshit from 600 of those stations.

it would be easy as shit for dems to end this crap, dump liimbo, and convict trump if they just got it through their music-listening earholes they have to stop ignoring rw radio

Sometimes its true, sometimes it isn't... but in a context of the time period we are talking about, there was no reason to doubt it. This is what you parents told you and your grandparents backed it up, etc.

Regardless, its a non-fucking-issue. Its a perfectly normal thing that a lot of Americans, especially those with families that hail from areas where tribes live or have lived, have been taught about themselves. They might check it off on some paperwork just because they thinks its true so therefore they can.

And honestly, if this is the worst thing you can say about a person (which seems to be the case with Warren, she is an astounding person in my view), then you know, whatever. They can go ahead and do that. We need to stop giving a shit. And so should she. Because its nothing. Its should be considered a completely impotent, phony attack on her character and we should treat it that way. And so should she.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
