Andrew Yang: "Impeachment is a disaster"

(At a DNC event)

- it sucks the oxygen out of the room news-wise
- He won’t be removed
- he’ll yell that he’s been exonerated

I’m liking him more and more...

If I were to vote in a presidential

This is serious business, and we don't need a high profile Democrat dismissing impeachment. Yang is reckless and undisciplined. He isn't recognizing that impeachment is not a Machiavellian tactic. There are Constitutional issues to resolve, regardless of what the Senate does. Just because the Senate MAY acquit doesn't justify ambivalence on the part of the House.

Yang is just trying to make headlines because he's being ignored, and when that happens, fundraising suffers.

impeach or presidents will from now on know they can just ignore Congressional oversight, not to mention risk the tens of thousands of voters who would stay home in disgust as do-nothing, milquetoast Dems kowtow to trump and the repugs yet again despite being in charge in the House.

It is about exposing the truth of a corrupt and criminal administration. Winning in the senate would be a plus. Winning in 2020 would be a plus.

His father should have pulled out a long time ago. Can’t do anything about that so give up?

Which party held the house in 2017?

The democrats won the house in 2018 but the term started in 2019. That’s this year isn’t it?

What course would you suggest?

We had control of the house in January - so why wait? We already knew there was a laundry list of impeachable crimes - so why wait?

As if that matters.

Some said do it fast. Some said why bother the senate won’t convict. Others said get more evidence.

Then there was evidence a few months ago that trump extorted Ukraine to interfere in the 2020 election.

I’ve read that more than a few representatives said that was the straw that made them switch to support.

At what point does silence become consent? The critical question is when is there no longer an excuse to remain silent. Not what was the earliest time.

Dec 2019

Thanks to Barr's treacherous pre-report and Mueller's less than stellar and obvious physical decline when he appeared, Speaker Pelosi held off on going for impeachment then as she knew trump would do something else to set up a stronger case for impeachment.

Come on, this was not that long ago and we didn't control the House in 2017 anyway so your post should probably be taken down.

that we've started the process.

We have to finish it at this point, dropping the impeachment effort at this time is admitting trump is "perfect."

Dems are trying to protect our democratic institutions regardless if it may negatively impact election. The grave issue is that trump went right after the presumptive nominee. If dems let it fold out, gop will have no breaks and they can do a hit job on any candidate, prez or senator, involving foreign help. They learned the lesson by not defending HRC, the most qualified candidate to ever seek office in modern history and the most admired woman worldwide.

Trump's crimes must be exposed and there must be a historical record of what he has done. I agree with that. But our first priority must be getting rid of him and if this process hurts us politically and allows him to win the 2020 election then I really fear for our country.

I really like Yang's analysis of economic issues. But his best chance at improving his public standing is in being perceived as a candidate that thinks practically and appeals outside of the Democratic core base.

I'd have to read the actual content of this remarks before making a full judgment, though. And I do agree, to a point, that Democrats need to build a case for election that goes far beyond being the non-Trump party. That's one of Yang's strengths.
