https://ballotpedia.org/Cenk_Uygur

REMINDER TO EVERYONE: Cenk Uygur is running for the seat recently vacated by Katie Hill, and he doesn't even live in the district up for grabs (although that's not a strict constitutional requirement) Most prominent Democrats in California, including Katie Hill herself, have endorsed Christy Smith.

In his earlier life he was a conservative republican and left the republican party shortly after the start of the Iraq War. He was an independent from that time until 2016 when he became a democrat.

Progressive Group Ousts Cenk Uygur Over Past Sexist Writing

The Justice Democrats ousted Cenk Uygur, one of its founding board members and a creator of progressive online network The Young Turks, following the Thursday revelation that Uygur had authored sexist blogposts in the early 2000s.

The left-leaning political organization, which Uygur and others established this year to support progressive primary challenges against Democratic incumbents in Congress, made the announcement Friday. The group also severed ties with David Koller, who co-founded The Young Turks with Uygur and served as Justice Democrats’ treasurer. A 2004 blogpost in which Koller used degrading language about women he and Uygur met on a road-trip surfaced this week as well.

“The words and conduct in Mr. Uygur and Mr. Koller’s posts degrade what it means to be a Justice Democrat,” Justice Democrats executive director Saikat Chakrabarti said in a Friday evening statement announcing the board’s decision to demand Uygur and Koller’s resignations. “We do not feel that Mr. Uygur is fit to lead or participate in an organization that truly believes women’s issues and the issues of black and brown people are all of our issues.”

The Justice Democrats board reached its decision to call for their departures after hearing Uygur’s “side of the story” and consulting with the political candidates the group has endorsed, Chakrabarti said.

No, raped and crucified women, starved tens of thousands to death..

"Systematic Mass Extermination".

Not to detract from what's happening in Burma but the Armenian Genocide was closer to the Holocaust in scale and served, in some ways, as the very model for the Third Reich.

And he did fucking deny it, for YEARS.

Kind of like a German saying 'well, some people were relocated, and sure a few got killed along the way', way too little, way too late.

29. Pelosi endorses Christy Smith in bid to replace Katie Hill
Thu Dec 12, 2019, 06:31 PM
Dec 2019

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) has formally endorsed California state Rep. Christy Smith's bid to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. Katie Hill (D-Calif.).

Smith has emerged as a leading candidate to replace Hill, who resigned in October following a House Ethics Committee investigation into allegations of inappropriate sexual relationships with staffers.

“California State Assemblywoman Christy Smith is a proven leader. We need her in Congress so that she can help advance our for the people agenda in Washington. I am proud to endorse Christy Smith because she will work to fight corruption, lower the cost of prescription drugs, fully fund public schools and build a strong middle-class economy that works for all Americans,” Pelosi said in a statement shared by Smith’s campaign.

Smith launched her campaign for Hill’s vacated seat just one day after the lawmaker announced her resignation.

Hill flipped the seat from Republican Rep. Steve Knight in 2018, and the March 3 special election to replace her has already drawn several GOP challengers, including Knight.

Smith has already received endorsements from several prominent Democrats, including both California senators, Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris.

82. LA County Democratic Party Says Cenk Uygur 'Does Not Belong in Congress
Fri Dec 13, 2019, 03:10 AM
Dec 2019

snip//

“Cenk Uygur’s comments are both heartless and disqualifying for someone who wants to serve in the peoples’ U.S. House of Representatives. The Los Angeles County Democratic Party does not tolerate hate or discrimination against any group or community. Instead, we celebrate the Democratic values of inclusivity, fairness, diversity, and compassion of and for people of all backgrounds and communities,” LA County Democratic Party Chair Mark J. González said in a statement. “Cenk Uygur’s shameful comments underscore the fact that he believes the opposite — and as a result he does not belong in Congress.”

snip//

In the LA County Democratic Party’s statement, the group pointed to Uygur’s comments on incest; derogatory statements about the Jewish, Muslim, and LGBTQ communities; and sexist statements he’s made toward women that were first uncovered by The Wrap.

snip//

In a 2017 interview with The Wrap, Uygur had apologized for his past graphic remarks about women, which included a claim that women were genetically “flawed” because they don’t want to have sex frequently enough.

“This kind of rhetoric has no place within the Democratic Party or our government. These remarks make Uygur unfit to serve in the House of Representatives. We condemn in the strongest possible terms the statements made and encourage all community members within the 25th Congressional District to do the same,” the alliance’s executive board said in a statement.

Representatives for “The Young Turks” did not respond to a request for comment.

I am not totally opposed to Cenk, I just think he is a terrible choice in many ways and by comparison. Let's say there are probably dozens of people I would suggest who are more appropriate.

I will leave it at that. I think, if you are familiar with Mr. Uygur, you may understand my position.

Tell me about it. Bernie himself has not been seriously challenged on his own controversial writings:

https://www.vox.com/2015/5/28/8682503/bernie-sanders-rape-fantasy

In case the text is tough to read, here are the opening paragraphs:

A man goes home and masturbates his typical fantasy. A woman on her knees, a woman tied up, a woman abused.

A woman enjoys intercourse with her man — as she fantasizes being raped by 3 men simultaneously.

The man and woman get dressed up on Sunday — and go to Church, or maybe to their "revolutionary" political meeting.

Fri Dec 13, 2019, 03:44 AM
Dec 2019

and this is very clear if you read their posts on social media. As I wrote previously, they are not liberals who demand social justice, but libertarians who can excuse all types of things if the person is left-wing (farther left the better) on economics. So it doesn't quite suprise me that Bernie endorsed this guy, an online ally and fellow traveler.

Cenk is not merely a 'fratboy' as his defenders claim - but a misogynist, a homophobe, a genocide denier and a Dem/Hillary/Obama hater.

There's a difference between the Hefner/Stern (both voted for Hillary, who they truly admired and liked) types who were/are harmless horndogs but truly liberal hearted - and the Cenk crowd (including Ana, who isn't much better) who are mean-spirited hipsters who worked overtime to derail the election of the first female president.
