I hate to suggest it but we need to borrow a page from Karl Rove's playbook

In 2004 he made sure that referendums on same sex marriage were put on the ballot in several key states. This brought out many conservative voters who might not have voted that year because they were not crazy about Bush. But they did come out to vote against same sex marriage and while they were there voted for Bush.

We need to do the same thing next year to bring out younger voters, who will vote for the Democratic nominee. The one issue that would drive them to the polls is marijuana legalization. So we need to get legalization referendums on the ballot in as many states as possible next year.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

of young voters, it PASSED.

Listen to this podcast from yesterday for exact details.

MSNBC Chris Hayes All In Friday12/13/19

Goto the 26:40 mark to hear Michael Moore

They put forward two ballot proposals.
One, marijuana legalization and two making gerrymandering and voter suppression a crime.
BOTH PASSED.

They double the turn out of youth voters by adding those ballot proposals.

This is already happening behind the scenes, and no one gets too upset about it.

would vote for but it has ZERO chance of making it to the ballot. We allow our overlords to decide what we need and want. Really stupid. Maybe if we can ever get rid of the morons running this state that will change but I'm not holding my breath.

10. Right. One needs to live in a state where there is an actual democracy for this to work.

5. This approach worked in Michigan

When marijuana legalization and making gerrymandering illegal were put on the ballot, turnout for certain demographics doubled. To win big, Democrats can focus on the largest demographic, the non-voter.

The RWNJ had ethical Bear Hunting on the ballot via public referendum. Such as you could not leave a bag of stale donuts out in the woods. Climb the nearest big tree. Then wait for a bear to come by for a tasty snack and then ka-boom you shoot it dead ambush style.

This brought the gun nuts out in all the rural areas to vote down the ethical bear hunting proposal - and at the same time the RWNJ voted en-masse for Paul LePage for four more years as our Fascist crazy ~ trDump loving ~ Nazi governor.

And ambushing bears with a bag of jelly donuts was voted - A Okay.

9. One of the best ways to drive turnout that we want is to raise the state minimum wage
Sat Dec 14, 2019, 12:08 PM
Dec 2019

If you raise the state minimum wage by $1 an hour, full-time workers gross about $2000.00 more a year. Would you show up at the ballot box for $2000 more a year?

This also drives up voters in exactly the places we want to drive it up--younger voters and less affluent voters.
Even if the minimum wage was raised only $.50 an hour, that would still be an extra $1000 gross for full-time workers. Minimum wages have been shown to significantly drive up the number of pro-Democratic voters in races all over the country in the past.

14. Younger constituents deserve issues that drive a better outlook on life

Green jobs: give them something to look to, and to work hard for - something real. This as opposed to being asked to keeping running on a coal/fossil fuel hamster wheel of waste, like my Gen X peers and I were expected to do. Yes, we had the dot com and computing revolution, but pulling away from cruel, arcane ideologies has not been easy or well timed (lemme point a finger at zuckerberg & fb) for the skill sets the younger folks have in abundance. They have good, technical and digital intuition, and their hard work is valuable for its time and life-saving potential.

Legalization of marijuana: The war on drugs hasn’t legislated away human nature, rather has only strengthened cartels and their black market profits. We need to get real about how dopamine pathways work and other human biochemical reward systems, because even drunken drivers draining ‘The Swamp’ fiddle with them. Stop disrupting people’s lives by demonizing them with false calls for morality, and needless trips to court/jail for a substance that isn’t as harmful as alcohol.

The irony of those old egg-cracking PSAs from the 80s comes to mind for all the worthless help they did other than make me hungry. Would have been better if they’d had some random dude hose a pile of cotton candy, while saying, “Stay off drugs, kids, if you don’t want to hose your ability to feel joy without dragging eight tons of cotton candy thru life. Just leave your dopamine pathways alone!”

(Editing to add - fuck a bunch of karl rove and his ilk. This is just common sense stuff.)

primary today, I would vote for:
