Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumAndrew Yang has defied expectations. Can he turn that into a 2020 win?
...
Woltzs story is like that of many other Yang supporters: They maybe didn't know much about him a year ago when Yang launched his campaign. They heard him on a podcast or something similar. They liked him, and then they got involved.
...
On Thursday, Yang (will) be the only non-white candidate to take the stage at the sixth and final Democratic debate of 2019. He has outlasted seasoned politicians, such as Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and New York City Mayor Bill deBlasio, who entered the race with much higher national profiles.
...
As Democrats look to win back voters who either switched to Trump or sat out in 2016, the diverse coalition Yang has attracted is valuable. Yangs following which includes Never-Trump Republicans, Libertarians, tried and true Democrats, and Democrats who are disenfranchised by the establishment could be a benefit to whomever the Democratic nominee is.
...
While Yang has brought in some Republican and former Trump supporters, he has also inspired some supporters to become more politically engaged.

I wonder how much time he'll get in the next debate 😁 they surely can't get away with ignoring him completely for the first half hour like last time 😂

(48,732 posts)after securing the support of three of the largest unions in the state of Illinois, and the endorsements of four of the nine US House members from Illinois. That landslide victory started the talk about a possible presidential run in his future.
He was then tapped to give the keynote speech at the DNC in 2004.
He clearly had the recognition and approval of party leadership by then.
Yang has no such political background.
Yes, Yang has managed to stay in the race longer than I'd expected. But he's nowhere near the top tier of candidates.

(48,732 posts)see any reason to believe he'll make it to the top tier in 2020, or do better in any presidential run until he has more of a resume.

(115,096 posts)He honestly never expected to get this far.
His main goal was to steer the debate so that the disruption due to automation would stop being ignored. And so we wouldn't lose again by ignoring the working class again.
But now that he's outlasted sitting senators, congresspeople, etc, he's in it to win. And I'm glad, because I truly believe he's our best candidate against Trump.

(1,086 posts)That is really the first question to ask. He certainly hasn't exceeded any. That the people he initially attracted have remained may be surprising to many it shouldn't be. Along with Gabbard the people who support them do so on some very real issues. Just not issues that will sway much more then those they have already garnered.

There is no denying that he has defied expectations. One cannot say the same about Klobuchar, unfortunately.
