New NPR National Poll Shows Bernie Sanders in Near-Tie With Joe Biden

[link:https://www.mediaite.com/election-2020/new-npr-national-poll-shows-bernie-sanders-in-near-tie-with-joe-biden/Mediaite]|

By Connor Mannion Dec 16th, 2019, 11:24 am

A new poll out from NPR and PBS shows Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in a virtual tie with Joe Biden as the favored candidate for Democrats across the country.

According to the NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist Poll, 24% of Democrats say they prefer more moderate Biden as the nominee while 22% percent prefer the avowed progressive Sanders – within the poll’s 3.5 percentage point margin of error and well within the question’s margin of error of 5.4 points.

The poll surveyed 1,744 adults via telephone and it was conducted between Dec. 9 and 11.

The poll also shows Sen. Elizabeth Warren in third place with 17% and Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 13% – rounding out a field of the apparent top four candidates. Entrepreneur Andrew Yang is in fifth place with the support of 5% of respondents.

different than a standard politician - that middle of the road voice that hides who they are and what they want. (You know, that milquetoast response that comes from many practiced politicians).

FWIW, I heard Brooks (David Brooks) say something similar last Friday on PBS Newshour.

It's not the system that people want upended so much, but......I don't know. Some kind of real voice that says what they mean.

Why I Believe Joe Biden Should Be the Next President - Emily Hecht-McGowan

Then on May 6, 2012 — a Sunday morning — Vice President Joe Biden appeared on Meet the Press. The national dialogue increasingly centered around the fight for marriage, so a related question was all but assured. By this time, the administration had ceased defending DOMA in the courts, but had stopped short of endorsing the freedom to marry as a fundamental right for all. When the question finally came to him, it was a simple proposition for the vice president: “Who do you love?”

In four words, Joe Biden became the highest-ranking U.S. official to affirm that my family is entitled to full dignity and equality under the law. In this one brief and unscripted answer, he moved our country forward. Just three days later, President Obama publicly affirmed his support for the freedom to marry."

What counts is the final vote and sometimes that is also wrong/stolen/questioned/overturned.

I don’t even care how Joe Biden is polling. It matters not. People will vote and then we will see who the nominee is. Bernie has said he will be a hold out till convention. He is not in support of the nominee.

So even a primary win for Warren or another candidate will be contested by your candidate until he accomplishes the same fucking thing he did last election - and that is to divide the party and not support the nominee at convention.

Polls suck and that is why I made such fun with my reply to this op. Simple as that.

it makes me wonder: what's the big deal? He is still behind! Ok, it's the best Bernie has ever done in a national poll, and it gives you hope. But hope for what? Bernie being a spoiler at the Democratic convention like he was in '16? That would be the worst possible outcome for the prospects of Democratic victory in '20.

Mean each had exactly the same chance of winning. Just being in the margin isnt a tie. Biden, by this poll would have a greater chance at victory than Sanders based on being ahead. Also, this is just one poll and it is among the best results Sanders has seen.

Biden is still the sole frontrunner.

......after endless complaints about corporate media bias in the polling process.

I personally don't put much stock in individual polls (positive or negative); I look at them in the aggregate to get an understanding of trends over time.

Biden: dropping slowly since June

Warren: dropping precipitously since October

Sanders: pretty much flat since May

Buttigieg: leveling off after growth since October

Bloomberg: rising.....
