(46 posts)I don't know that Biden can claim that much credit, but he was an advocate. It was Diane Feinstein's bill and President Clinton fought very hard for it. It was a first step - needing to be strengthened, but of course Bush won years later, and he and the GOP let it expire completely. We need Democrats in full power for a while.

Yes, almost everyone one of those deaths is tragic and unjustifiable, but they are relatively few. And there a many millions more not used to kill people.
Here are the FBI data on Murder Weapons. All rifles (not just with ARs and AKs) never exceed 403 cases out of ~15,000 murders.

Reducing gun violence is a good cause, but fear-mongering about Assault Weapons is just our version of crying out about 9/11 during election season.
