this is Warrens worst debate so far. She has always been able to flip a question into what she actually wants to talk about, but I've noticed her floundering when she has tried that tonight a few times.

They asked her about Guantanamo and she ended up rambling into talking about her brothers and how we need to work with allies....but what does that have to do with Guantanamo? There have been other times as well.

I don't know if she's angry or not, but I figure she's feeling the pressure of her recent polling collapse.

very interested in other issues or not as conversant about them. She did not clarify her stance on nuclear energy, has made flubs on foreign policy, and in first debates seemed to hang back unless questions related to her wheelhouse, ground she is thoroughly confident on.

Both she and Bernie show themselves to be convincing, extraordinarily informed and energetic leaders on a range of progressive policies intended to provide economic relief and justice to working and middle class Americans.

The question for both though is whether they can lead on the many fronts that comprise the full range of presidential powers and duties. Bernie answers a question about pervasive violence against trans women of color with the all-purpose “moral leadership” cure for social ills and a pitch for M4All. No more war is his solution to questions about our policy going forward in Afghanistan.

Similarly, Warren sees more global issues through a domestic economics lens. And she seems only recently to have discovered black Americans, at a time when she needs political support.

I hope both candidates will demonstrate more leadership on more issues moving forward in their campaigns.

Was sorely missed in previous ones. Except after Trump gave Syria to Putin.

Both Clinton and Obama emphasized domestic policies because these were the main issues then. Certainly for Clinton after the collapse of the Soviet Block. But this time foreign policy is just as important as domestic one. Granted, not exactly a "kitchen table" issue, unless one is a farmer or a lobster fisherperson suffering from the trade fights, but someone who wants to lead this country, to be, again, the leader of the free world, has to master everything.

when she calls out rival candidates or is on the defensive because her manner then is at odds with the highly confident, unflappable persona she conveys when she is in charge of her own talking points. It’s the personality contrast people notice.

I would say she displays righteous indignation and passion about economic injustice, a mastery of facts, feisty poise, but that challenged, rebutted, she appears uncomfortable, prickly. She will have
to manage these moments more effectively. Warren is not new at crusading for progressive issues. She is new at presidential level politics, however. She has to learn to roll with the punch-backs, gender-bias or no.

they are called "Forceful" or "passionate".

Remember the "apology or gift" question. That really encapsulates the whole thing.

The women apologized for seeming angry or brusque. The men offered their books or themselves as "gifts" to the world.

But, hey, I get it. We will never have a female president.

is Klobuchar, was Clinton. And when Obama was toe to toe with Clinton he had to be extremely restrained. Well, that was his personality, a study in self-control, balanced temperament.

I do find the gift/forgiveness answers telling along gender lines. I am appalled that even the most
educated, progressive women leaders of today feel they must apologize somehow.

I thought she was really mad...and I get why, but it did affect her answers during the debate for a bit...I wish folks would stop blaming sexism for everything...it is so divisive. It absolutely exists...no doubt.

Racism existed also in 2008, But Obama managed to overcome it and win the nomination. Some day a woman (Democrat of course) will do this and win the presidency. I don't think it will be this year.

Also, Warren attacked Buttigieg unfairly IMHO with the wine cave remark...and he was right without donors he could not run and she has accepted money as well and is much richer than he is...what did she expect him to do?

shouting, waving his hands, pointing fingers.

Warren has almost always managed to be in control, except when questioning others - men, yes - who disagree with her, for their presence in the "wrong primary" or "wrong stage." But this time, from the start, she appeared unfocused, irritated. And it was contrasted with Klobuchar's calm, sure footed.

Not that pundits should tell us who to support, but it was generally agreed that this was Warren's worse debate and Klobuchar's best.

In an interview with CNN after the debate, Klobuchar said she noticed that only the two women on stage apologized, but said: "I would not read that much into it."

"Maybe we're humble," Klobuchar said. "And maybe with the guy in the White House right now, maybe we need a little humbleness, instead of the loudest voice or the biggest bank account heading up the ticket."
