Democratic Primaries
Related: About this forumStacey Abrams: The early VP announcement claim was made up
Media outlets who ran with this story have some explaining to do:
"We talked about whether I was thinking about running. We talked about whether he was thinking about running. But we did not have that conversation and everything else is pure speculation made up by somebody else."
Pundits were talking about a gimmick and all that crap.

(25,183 posts)Got shot down, and the best way to handle it is to deny the launch of the balloon. It happens in politics all the time.
Had it been successfully received, and Joe Biden's polling numbers shot up to over 50%, it would have been hailed as a brilliant move.

(25,183 posts)comparing it to Reagan's move in 1976 to pick Richard Schweiker as a running mate to wrest the nomination from Gerald Ford, and Ted Cruz's fumbled attempt to get California primary votes by doing the same with perennial failure Carly Fiorina.
Joe Biden does have the early lead at this point, but whether he and/or his advisers squander it, or he has it taken from him by a more clever candidate remains to be seen. It is shrewd strategy to delay the announcement of his candidacy as long as possible given his current position, but that can only go on for just so long.

(2,331 posts)It is about the soundest thing he can do at this point. The longer he can sit out and avoid the scrutiny of being a declared candidate the better. As long as he declares by the first debate he is fine.
Frankly I'm not enthused about anyone 75+ running for President with the way health can take a downturn fast at that age.

(2,331 posts)Joe is one of them regardless of what he does or says. If he was the nominee I would of course vote for either of them with great apprehension.
I can be accused of ageism but father time is undefeated. Failing to acknowledge that reality is foolishness.

Btw, those claiming Stacey was insulted and injured were doing a hit job on him, and that was obvious at the time. Shame on them and all who ran with it.
