Candidate Debate Speaking Time

The full list of candidates' speaking times is as follows:

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders -- 20:02
Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar -- 19:48
Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren -- 19:28
South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg -- 19:18
Former Vice President Joe Biden -- 16:08
Tom Steyer -- 11:26
Andrew Yang -- 10:44

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/leads-speaking-time-presidential-debate-2019/story?id=67837364

I'll reiterate a point I made from the audience point of view: Yang doesn't attempt to inject himself into discussions. Other candidates were quick to signal to the moderators that they wanted to respond to a point...or just jumped in. Yang never did.
If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden

the general "politeness" among their people and reticence to interrupt/interject seems very much a lingering cultural phenomenon. One might guess at least some of that would remain--even generations following immigration.

It may be a stereotype, but in this case, it is a "nice" one that I wish we had a bit more of across the board.

That is submitting to others when trying to appear like a leader. I sure wouldn't view it as respectful if I was helping to fund his campaign or giving my time to him. Respectful is completely the wrong word. It also implies that those who understand how debating at this level works are disrespectful. The "respectful" excuse doesn't fly.

and I am a person helping to fund his campaign. As to understanding how debating works.... Well, these are not really debates but rather media dog & pony shows so with efforts made by both the moderators and the candidates (in many cases) to raise temperatures and fodder for sound bites to broadcast in either campaign commercials or the endless drivel of talking head infotainment blathering cable noise that masquerades as news.

and I would much rather have a respectful person who is 3 steps ahead of the rest of the field in his thinking as opposed to the other choices presented who I find busy trying to solve yesterdays problems as opposed to having a plan for the future.

The inability to be assertive in a debate is not three steps ahead of the field. Not being able to get your message out on prime time because you submit to every person ahead of you in the polls is not being three steps ahead.

I will stick with Andrew Yang as he is in my opinion 3 steps ahead of everyone running for the office. If you believe otherwise, you are certainly entitled to do so, but you do seem rather angry in your commentary.

And he didn't fight for every second, you would define that as an issue of "respect." I do think Yang is respectful. I don't think his time has anything to do with him being respectful. Less assertive? Yes.

As one of them, I'm happy he doesn't get into the mud and get into heated arguments with fellow democrats.

I appreciate that he keeps his focus on the American public - the voters who are yearning for real changes, not the ones waiting for a candidate showdown in the latest episode of The Real World - Politics.

I’ve noticed that when one makes a solid point around here, the first position those who don’t like it take is “shut up.” Not a very good debate tactic. Goes hand in hand with the topic itself. It’s such an insignificant point that it would take no time on the stage. Seems to be some overlap in debate style. Well done.

When your only interest is in listening to an extremely small group of supporters and a campaign not getting off the ground, said campaign will stay grounded, as reality is showing us.
