Gavin Newsom did not appreciate Elizabeth Warren's 'wine cave' swipe at Pete Buttigieg

California Governor Gavin Newsom came to the defense of South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and his recent Napa "wine cave" fundraiser after the 2020 presidential hopeful was attacked by Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren during the sixth Democratic presidential debate Thursday night.

Warren criticized Buttigieg for his Sunday night fundraiser at Hall Wines in St. Helena, which was attended by several wealthy Bay Area Democrats.

“We made the decision many years ago that rich people in smoke-filled rooms would not pick the next president of the United States,” she said. “Billionaires in wine caves should not pick the president of the United States.”

Buttigieg responded by stating he was the only person on the debate stage who is not a millionaire or billionaire, and criticized Warren for her own large donations.

said his fundraisers were all open to the press. If you're goig to claim that kind of stuff, yu better damn well be squeaky clean. Where the name wine cave came from I don't know, but everybody who heard it seemed to think the same thing..what the hell is a wine cave? The statement about serving $600 bottles of wine, it was obvious that it was exclusive club and reporters were banned. He had to know somebody would find out and call him on it.

If he was honest with all his fund raisers welcoming reporters this question would never gave been asked.

I have no problem with any candidate accepting $$ from anyone, as long as all the requirements are met. No foreign funds etc. He MUST play by his own promises too because you ALWAYS get caught!

back on track by purity testing the other candidates. Klobuchar's attack on Pete's lack of experience was much more effective and appropriate. I don't think criticizing legal and transparent fundraising really resonates outside the left wing of the Democratic Party.

She tried to do a winecavegate for effect. Should have known it would backfire and only further
associate her candidacy with unlikable purity testing. She was also not well prepared for Buttigieg’s pushback. But then I have seen her uncomfortable before when rivals try to knock her off her talking points.

Much time left for a full recovery. No more Robespierring Liz. Does not suit you.

Warren is running on a platform on getting money out of politics. Pete is not. The question is whether the Democratic Party can afford to have this debate now when the biggest money is stacked on the Republican side.

If rich people don't like the policies they wouldn't be contributing to Democrats. I'm deeply disappointed in Warren.

Newsom's right, why shouldn't rich people be allowed to participate in the democratic process? They're Democrats! Donations are going to pay for the campaign, not going into the candidate's pocket. Donations aren't bribes. It's not like borrowing money from the mob. Used to be Republicans who called Democrats elites sipping Chardonnay, they must love this.

And employs 41,000 workers (excluding seasonal and temporary employees).

And about wine caves;

Wine caves are subterranean structures for the storage and the aging of wine. They are an integral component of the wine industry worldwide. The design and construction of wine caves represent a unique application of underground construction techniques.

The storage of wine in extensive underground space is an extension of the culture of wine cellar rooms, both offering the benefits of energy efficiency and optimum use of limited land area. Wine caves naturally provide both high humidity and cool temperatures, which are key to the storage and aging of wine.
