Danny Glover Endorses Bernie Sanders

(Since someone posted about Kevin Costner endorsing Pete Buttigieg, I thought I would post another actor endorsing Sanders. And Danny Glover is much more of a social activist than Costner.)

https://www.telesurenglish.net/news/US-Danny-Glover-Endorses-Presidential-Candidate-Bernie-Sanders-20190620-0019.html

“It is our responsibility to make America (the United States) what it can become. Not only for ourselves, but for the universe itself and for mother earth, and for all citizens. Bernie Sanders represents that. In our deepest heart, as we find ways in which we as citizens can come together. We have an opportunity to do this right now."

He continued by saying, "Only by reaching high can you transform this country; you cannot meddle around in the middle. … Our action is extremely necessary now,” the actor said, encouraging voters of all ages — particularly African American voters to educate themselves to prepare for the upcoming elections in 2020.

(I recently saw a great movie called The Last Black Man in San Francisco, which stars Jimmie Fails and Danny Glover has a small role. It is about a young black man who lost his home in the Fillmore when he was a child, but tries to get it back when it is vacated over an estate dispute. It is a story taken from Jimmie Fail's own life, when he lost his family home in the Fillmore and lived in foster homes much of his life.)

From wiki
Jimmie Fails was born and raised in San Francisco. He lived in a Victorian house that his grandfather, a Baptist preacher, had bought in the predominantly Black middle-class Fillmore district of San Francisco until he was three years old. After his grandfather died, the house was foreclosed on because his relatives could not afford the expense, and he spent the remainder of his childhood in foster care and public housing. Only he and his father remained in the city; the rest of the relatives moved out.

In related news on Gavin Newsom and homelessness in California:

https://www.cacities.org/Top/News/Press-Releases/2019/League-Disappointed-with-Veto-of-SB-5

Sacramento – The League of California Cities today issued the following statement in response to news that Governor Newsom has vetoed Senate Bill 5 (Beall, McGuire, Portantino). SB 5 would have established a state partnership with cities and counties to provide an ongoing, sustainable and accountable source of funding to build affordable housing and address the housing shortage and homeless crisis.

“We’re very disappointed that Governor Newsom vetoed SB 5,” said Carolyn Coleman, executive director, League of California Cities. “In communities throughout the state, we simply do not have enough affordable housing available to low- and very- low income households. SB 5 would have earmarked much needed ongoing funding for local governments to build tens of thousands of affordable units, helping us put a dent in the housing affordability and homeless crisis. SB 5 would have made a real difference.

https://www.vcstar.com/story/news/local/2019/10/15/newsom-rejects-2-billion-measure-affordable-housing-state/3988311002/

Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill to authorize up to $2 billion in annual state funding for affordable housing projects in California.

Days before he vetoed Senate Bill 5, Newsom indicated he wasn’t likely to sign off on expensive measures due to the budget’s financial limitations.

(On another side note, I lived in the projects in Hunter's Point in San Francisco as a child, before moving to Chicago when my father got involved in integrating neighborhoods with the Leadership Council on Metropolitan Open Communities and the Chicago Commission on Human Relations which was started by Mayor Daley in negotiations with Martin Luther King).

Mmm, ok?. Btw I’m not a Newsom fan either.

Glover needs to list sanders legislative accomplishments backing up his talk or else it’s just worn out talking points.
